Re: Lungs

For those wondering about dry air... I suggest setting up a venue in moist air and seeing how that feels.. "Lung burn" happens to all of us in dry air.. REPYING TO "I generally row everything at least sub 2:00/500m." WHY? National teams even row slower than that... The 2k OTErg is 80+ % aerobic... a...

Re: 2K Sprint

Mike Caviston (of the Wolverine Plan) has detailed the empirical benefits of negative splitting statistically.... That being said, strange things happen on the way to one's own PB.. Generally, trying to improve one's 2k time at a constant % improvement just doesn't happen... Usually it's the prepara...

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/819/z4ba.png I guess all of us who are watching the records go down in the 65-69 HWTs are wondering: WIll TJO (Oesterling) foot the airfare and get the official 65-69 World Record title? Any of you in cyber space know? (It has to be set at a sanctioned ra...

Re: Request for Advice on Erg Racing Starts

One aspect of my ergatta rowing is puzzling me. My starts in organized races are much slower than in my practice pieces. When I do a test at home.............. I am going to row at Crash B's next week. I understand that there is much more time to overcome a slow start in a 2k than in a 500m race. H...

Re: erg racing results from around the world

Cédric Berrest pulled a 5:50.5 today at the French Championships. He is the 2009 CRASH-B winner (5:48.9). That's fabulous! Where did he do this? And here are some more outstanding results form the Valentine's Day Massacre" http://imageshack.com/a/img542/7051/rx1c.png http://imageshack.com/a/img812/...

Re: Practical advice for first-time CRASH-B participants

to Bob S: Nice story... Thanks for sharing... ~ Mike vB As for practical advice... (Is erging practical? ) I may have gone to C-Bs ten or eleven times... once I even went to cox a man who I rowed with regularly... another time I went just to volunteer... And I didn't always live fairly near by...

Re: Left/right side stroke imbalance

I would check flexibility in the hips, hamstrings, even ankles like mikvan52 suggested. Row in front of a mirror... Check everything with bi-lateral symmetry issues in mind... I find that it's harder to row symmetrically than I once thought. SOme coaching would help too... If you don;t have anyone w...

Re: Will Oesterling make it 'official' < WR 65-69 2k

I was talking with DIck Dreissigacker recently and asked him if he was interested in pushing for a switch from the static to the dynamic at CRASH-Bs... He was sort of non-commital but voiced the obvious concern that programs would not like to switch out their equipment... I do feel he is excited abo...

Re: Left/right side stroke imbalance

Imbalances of this nature are often due to leg length discrepancies. <- A chiropractor could check that for you • ANOTHER SOURCE: Disk problems and/or misalignment of the spine. If you fear you have an issue that is less drastic... Be certain to spend adequate time stretching and evaluate flexibilit...

Re: converting times

One thing to keep in mind is that rowers are handicapped in distance running because their upper bodies are needlessly over-developed... All in all, any comparison would be apples to oranges... anecdotally (not scientifically)... I think when I ran a 15:20 5k on the roads I could have done a 20' 6k ...
