Re: Training in the heat!
I use a fan now which blows so hard it practically blows me off the seat. Perhaps being 68 years old is a factor as well when working out in the heat!

Training in the heat!
Where I train is not air conditioned at all and in summer time here in Australia the temperature and humidity can get very high indeed which makes it difficult when attempting a work out. This week the temperatures have all been up above 30C. On the worst day the erg room was at 35C! I have been won...

Re: How to go about achieving a personal best
I am surprised at what I started here! Thank you for all the contributions. From what has been said, I have gained the impression that I should be attempting personal bests at longer intervals than I am doing at present. It has to be said though that I am finding indoor rowing quite addictive. While...

How to go about achieving a personal best
I am one of the old stagers (65 years old) on this site, but am still interested in improving my performance. With the handle in my hand, I find it hard not to go all out! Being a stayer rather than a sprinter, I concentrate on 5000 metres, 30 minutes, 10,000 metres and 1 hour. Whether I try to impr...

Fixed C2 vs C2 on rails
After a break of around 6 months or so due to travel and other commitments I am back on the C2 again, but at a different place where the ergs all run on rails. At my old gym the only machines available were the fixed variety. The machine on rails certainly has a different feel to it and I am wonderi...

Chafed backside!!
I had my first workout on a dynamic Concept 2 a couple of days ago, after nearly a year working out regularly on the standard model. I have never had a problem with chaffing on my rear end before, not even when I rowed in the boat back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. To be fair, it was a pretty hot...

How much do you sweat?
I have always thought that I seemed to sweat more than most people, so today, as an experiment I weighed myself before an erg workout at my local gym - 206 lbs or 93.6kg. I then threw myself into a solid 60 minute effort, with a 10 minute slower cool down at the end. I didn't have my foot right to t...

Preparing for the hot weather
I have been putting in a pretty solid effort during our Australian winter, starting in May after not having rowed for almost 40 years. I average about 25k per week, which is not a huge distance in the cooler weather (sub 20C). However I do my work at a gym which is not airconditioned and am starting...

Blisters on left hand, but not the right
I have been back into erging for the last three months and have noticed that I develop blisters on my left hand (base of the fingers), but there is not even a sign of a blister on my right hand. I am a natural right hander and in my rowing days was a more comfortable bow sider. Does this suggest a f...

Erging on a full stomach - not a good idea!
Today I made the mistake of undertaking a workout immediately after lunch, which included a large glass of milk. My performance was dreadful, although I managed to keep everything on board! I am assuming that was why I felt so bad. Has anyone else had a similar experience or has any thoughts on what...

Recovery time between PB attempts
I am a 63 year old who has recently resumed rowing after a forty year break, although I have been a regular at the gym for the last ten years, but doing my cardio work on the bike. A month ago I started on the erg to prepare me for Masters rowing and after a few 30 minute efforts, I decided that I s...
