'Meters' App

Hi, Does anyone else here use the app 'Meters'? I find it useful for recording my workouts since I usually have my iPod at the gym with me anyway and the user interface is (mostly) intuitive. My one problem is that it won't sync or upload to the Concept2 website. I would normally just write them dow...

Re: Need to gain weight

Make sure you are replacing all of the calories you burn within about 60 minutes of your workout. For example, have a snack before a workout, drink some gatorade/etc during a workout, then post-workout get some carbs and protein into you. This works best if you can calculate the calories you burned ...

Re: Ranger's training thread

If I row well, stay right on the beat, and row a FM right through, I can do 1:48/2:32 listening to "Steamroller." If I row well, stay right on the beat, and row 60min right through, I can do 1:44/17.3K listening to "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy." If I row well, stay right on the beat, and row a 2K r...

But I gave it a try.

If first you don't succeed, try, try, again.

So now we have round two.

Re: New to Rowing

Hi, and welcome! The Pete Plan ( http://thepeteplan.wordpress.com/the-pete-plan/ ) is a good beginner's plan, or you could also try the Concept2 interactive training plan ( http://concept2.co.uk/training/interactive ) which takes into account current fitness levels. Also, if you head on over to the ...

Re: Height for Lighweights: new rower seeking advice

I am 5'10 as well, and while I started rowing at 166lbs, since I went from sedentary to rowing, I quickly lost 25lbs and have hovered around 136-140lbs since. Going lwt is something that I have thought about a lot for the past two years, but currently I am not doing it, for a few reasons. 1) I want ...

60' rate 22 test today: went from 2:10.6 to 2:07.8 since November. I'm pretty pleased, but wish I had known the cutoffs for my age/weight category started at 2:07.2!

Re: Training levels

Physiologically, even though it may not feel like you're doing enough, it's almost certain that you are. As an athlete, the struggle's almost always to hold yourself back - you want to see immediate results, but that's not always going to be the case. There's a reason that the successful internatio...

Re: Training levels

The accepted logic at the elite levels is that for most programs, the hard stuff (i.e. intervals and AT work) is not hard enough and the easy stuff (distance rowing that accounts for most of the volume) is not easy enough. You honestly don't want to do your distance rowing (anything more than an ho...

Heart Rate Training

So, I have some questions about HR training. My coach has started asking us to follow the "Categories of Training Intensity" heart rate guidelines, which are as follows: cat 1 - max speed - max heart rate - example 6x500m cat 2 - 6k-8s - max heart rate 180-200 - example 6x3min cat 3 - 6k-2s - max he...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

4x9 minutes
2'@16, 2'@18, 1'@20, 2'@18, 2'@16

My coach wants us to focus on high intensity, low rate pieces. I found the 16 very frustrating - the split was so far off my 2k goal! I just have to remember it does have a purpose, I suppose.

Re: First few strokes on 100m to 500m rows

It is a tradition from on the water, but the way that I have always understood it is that the quick, shorter strokes at the beginning of the race piece get the flywheel moving much the same way they would a boat. I have always found that doing 3/4, 1/2, 3/4, full at the start of a race piece brings ...

Thanks H20, that's interesting reading. I'll check my library and see if they have that book. I'm still sitting just under 140 these days, so at least I am not losing weight!
