Re: first time posting - still trying to figure things out
my rowing technique pretty much consisted of: explode with the legs, back at 1 o'clock position, when legs are almost at full lockout, pull with back when back is almost at 11 o'clock pull with arms thrust arms forward bend hips and finally bend legs using the straps to pull foward c You should be ...

Re: Rowing / Strength Training After Heart Surgery
If you had heart surgery back in 2013, I am surprised you still have limitation on your exercise. Of course, I just do little weights, so it has not been an issue for me. I did have a related surgical procedure in 2016 that included a sternotomy, and most of the restrictions I followed were due to t...

Re: HR zone / workout question
I should have included that I think my max is ~187 (haven't ever seen it go higher than that with my HR monitor during interval or TTs). My resting is somewhere around 55 - 60. You can also calculate Watts. your best 2k time comes to about 224 Watts. Your pace time comes to 163 Watts, or about 73% ...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Yeah! I rowed a new PB of 7:51.6 in a 2k. It also hits the 50% mark in my age-weight group. It has been a while since I did this distance (because it hurts!) I was aiming for a 1:58 pace, so it was basically spot on. I should probably try a 1:57 pace to see how that goes. Sitting alone in my garage ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Inquiring minds want to know your advice. You haven't mentioned my reply to your questions, did it answer them and was it helpful? Dear Rod, Yes, I did find your advice helpful. Thank you. I found this comment particularly helpful: "There is plenty in them about not mixing aerobic and anaerobic on ...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Might not be much to brag about compared with some of the times here, but just knocked 40s off my 40+ 5k time hitting 20m38sec. Haven’t done a 2k trial in ages (only just back rowing again), I’ll give one a go Friday and see how close I can get to my 2005 pb of 7m31. Might be tricky as I’m so used ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
A bit baffled about my weight. Home scale read a depressing 174 pounds after the holiday break, but the scale at the gym (a balance model that does get calibrated regularly) produced an encouraging 165 pounds this afternoon. I recently found my 7 year old bouncing up an down on the home scale to se...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Well done Mark, if I'm reading this correctly you did 60 minutes covering 12149metres which was an average pace of 2:28.1 and at an average heart rate of 118 bpm which is about 65% of what you think your maximum may be? The idea now is to keep repeating it with the heart rate and stroke rate stayin...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
The way I see it, on the rower, the legs directly push against the flywheel. On the skierg, its a squat with bodyweight, you recover from, during the actual pull, the legs can,t really do anything, except bending. So if I tipped my rower so the back was 30 or 40 degrees down, then the motion would ...

Bad data in rankings
Does anyone monitor the data in the concept 2 rankings? Does anyone correct errors? I found that the average time for a 6000 M in the Mens 50-59 HWT section is anomalously high. The final entry is someone reporting a 6000M row in 32 hours! Ok, I would believe 32 min, but 32 hours is just not possibl...

Re: Pete Plan Thread
Nabonasar, you reached that 100+ watts goal quickly! I would suggest trying a slower SPM but keep up the power output. Try an spm of 20, but keep your power above 100 watts. You should look at the online videos about rowing form. You want a long stroke that delivers most of the power from your legs ...

Re: Forearm seized up so failed a 5K test, retesting tomorrow. Technique advice pls
I think your form looks good. You might be opening up your back a little early. Focusing on your arms, it looks like you grip is relatively relaxed and open. Your wrists appear to be flat throughout, which is good. I am not identifying any issues, and will be curious what others will find. If you ju...

Re: Pete Plan Thread
Hi Scott! I'm hardly an expert, but to me, the reason that beginners should limit their low rate work (and I would consider anything under 22 for someone Janet's height to be low rate) is that low rate work is really tough to do with proper form. I know when I was beginning, I had a hard time under...

Re: Pete Plan Thread
I agree I would have difficulty keeping lower than 23 or so...it just doesn't feel smooth or natural to use too low of a stroke rate. Had a lower damper today as I had a bit of sore back from a full day of pickle ball yesterday, so that may have impacted the stroke rate by 1 or 2 as well. Hi Janet,...
