Today, I put in 20K.

Are you saying that you did 20k, pulling 1:43 @ 25spm the whole time? Congratulations on setting the age group WR 10k on your way to 20k.

Re: Is there such a thing as Too Anaerobic?

It almost sounds more like overtraining to me. Have you tried putting those kids on a forced recovery for a week or two? It sounds like they are not disciplined enough to manage their pacing.

Re: Quick time drop with long steady workouts?

You will pay later for every stroke you take below your pace. I did another 2k last week at a 6:43.0, but I did exactly what you advised against here. Pulling the first 200m at a 1:35 eliminated my sprint at the end. Usually though, I hold a consistent split and sprint the last 350m or so. What was...

Re: Quick time drop with long steady workouts?

With 2 months to work with, you should definitely be able to make some progress. I am assuming that you are on the water right now. What is your training volume like? How many days do you practice and are you doing more than one workout a day? How do you currently pace your 2k? Even splits, fly and ...

You are catching with your arms/back/shoulders. Your elbows should remain straight until you are completing your body swing. Fixing this will go a long way to fixing your jerkiness around the finish. Try taking some strokes legs only, legs and back only, etc. with your arms straight and your shoulde...

You mentioned again that you want to "gain a few pounds so that I can get my 6k and 2k into a bit more respectable range." I am not going to say that there is no correlation between your score and your weight at the height/weight ratio you are at, but your focus should not be on gaining weight. It i...

How old are you? How tall are you? Are you still growing? How long have you weighed 145? What is your current training regimen? How long have you been training? What is your 2k time? What do you want it to be? Why do you want to gain weight? You don't need to gain weight to get faster on the erg; Yo...

I completed Week 3, Column 3, Day 3 yesterday after 8 tries. My first try gave a last set of 15 (needed 28). I did a last set of 30 yesterday. On to week 4.

Thought that I would check back in with my progress, or lack thereof. I said before that I took 4 tries to get through Week 3, Day 1 on level 3. I then took 8 tries to get through Week 3, Day 2. I did the first 4 sets successfully from the start, but had to progress from 12 on the final set up to 25...

I took the week 2 test on Saturday after doing the workouts MWF.

I went through week 3 once without completing the final set of any of the 3 days, then went to the KevJGK method and repeated Week 3 Day 1 until I could do the 20+ on the last set. Took 4 attempts total.

If you can do 58 pushups right off the bat, week 4 is the earliest you should start. Waiting to see how quickly you get to 100!

I have started treating each workout as a target in itself which I repeat every other day until I crack it. I am currently on week 4 day 1 which calls for 21, 25, 21, 21, 32+ with only 60 seconds rest. I have failed this 3 times so far although I managed 21, 25, 21, 21, and 16 today so it is possib...

I started this plan about 2.5 weeks ago. I did 21 pushups on my initial test and started at week 1 in column 3. After 2 successful weeks of workouts, I tested again at 30 pushups, putting me in column 3 for week 3. Week 3 is crazy! I did the second workout last night and didn't even come close to do...

I had some hip flexor (and knee) pain develop over a similar period. In my case, I found that my erg was not level side to side. It was a pretty small adjustment, 2-3 thicknesses of compressed corrugated cardboard, but the pain was not present at the next workout.

Re: Strength Training

That burn is exactly the same as the burn in the 3rd leg of a 2000 meter time trial. I did not say that there would be more strength gained by using this method. I did say that it would teach the muscle how to handle and continue to perform during that 3rd leg. I will tell you that the US Cycling t...
