Re: Stress fracture/spondylolysis in adult
While I know nothing about spondylolysis, I know a fair amount about strengthening bones. I have osteoporosis and compression fractures in my lower vertebrae. I have had very good success treating my condition with strength training (which may not be advisable in your current state) and supplementin...

Re: Looking to pull the trigger, some questions...
One more thing about the cost of these.
I bought a model C 11 years ago for about $750. My maintenance was zilch, apart from the monthly oiling of the chain and I did crank it quite hard at times. Sold it this spring for $500. They will keep their value and they don't seem to break.

Re: Ranger's training thread
Haven't tuned in for a while and just noticed that a Rocket Roy, age 60, from GBR posted a 10K time in the 2012 rankings. It's quite respectable so early in the season and is sure to get much better after some distance rows for conditioning followed by several weeks of hard sharpening before race se...

Re: Overuse Injuries
Just to add to MontanaAndy's advice. I'm 68 and some years ago (5+/-) and have had a couple of bouts with tendonitis - tennis elbow from erging and achilles tendon from jogging. I can trace these back to overuse, not warming up thoroughly, and starting back at an intense level after a few weeks of l...

Rubin, While you're still in the education phase about heart rate and exercise intensity, you may want to go to: http://homepage.mac.com/giarnellamd/understandinghea.html You will find a detailed explanation ofthe points discussed above and answer some of the other questions you may have. It's a bit...

Re: Recovery after hip fracture
In my case when I stepped on the what looked like wet asphalt my feet flew out from under me and I landed on my hip with full force on asphalt. It is also likely my legged twisted around wildly. I have the bruises from my butt all the way down my thigh to show for it. The surgeon said I show no sig...

Re: messing around with the IP
Yeah, and an other way to do it is to diddle around with the HR max. My resting HR is fairly well set, 54. I have seen it lower, but the 54 is the most consistent value. My original max guesstimate was 160, which I had seen on occasion some time ago, but, a couple of years ago, I dropped it to 155 ...

Time for another Holiday reset. On Saturday, October 30, 2010, the Opera Company of Philadelphia brought together over 650 choristers from 28 participating organizations to perform one of the Knight Foundation's "Random Acts of Culture" at Macy's in Center City Philadelphia. Accompanied by the Wana...

Has English soccer gone the way of English erging? What? At WIRC 2010, the whole English team won just one medal, and even so, a silver? Yikes. Ridiculously bad. ranger Ranger, Please refrain from prognostications as you've got a poor record here. Remember the Winter Olympics? You said Canadian hoc...

Re: Question for Bob S
When I had my first bone density scan, many years ago by older methods, I got a thumbs up on it but no numbers mentioned. Much more recently, I had one of the newer tests, which uses an apparatus resembling an MRI in appearance and operation. I was told that the results of that showed that I had an...

Re: Question for Bob S
I've heard you talk about your skeletal system deteriorating. Curious as to exactly what you mean. Most middle aged people who don't train probably couldn't get close to 8:00 for a 2K like you. That said, you must be getting around like the average middle age person. Do you think it would have help...

Certainly doable but this is purely word of mouth and hearsay as is everything this person writes How about put-on or leg-pull? Poetic License, pure and simple. I'm surprised that folks who have been reading here for more than a couple of weeks insist on precisely parsing Ranger's hyperbolic boasts...
