Re: rattling inside flywheel

Apparently the cover had worked itself loose or out of alignment. I took it off, and when I rowed there was no noise. I put the cage back on, making sure it was tightened and lined up, and the noise is gone. That was easy!

rattling inside flywheel

I have an almost-new model D that I haven't used much yet, so I haven't done any chain maintenance yet. It worked fine the last time I rowed, a few days ago. I just got on, and there is a weird sound coming from the flywheel - it sounds as though there are little plastic balls rattling around in the...

I'd keep the exercise bike. I wish I had easy access to one right now, because I have a metatarsal stress fracture. Running and rowing (except for arms-only) are out for now, but an exercise bike works. Same goes for knee injuries - sometimes running or rowing is out of the question, but cycling mig...

I usually use an icepack under my left arch after running; it helps keep the plantar fasciitis in check. Submerging the whole foot in ice is a great suggestion. (I have a friend who climbs into an icewater bath after long runs, but I can't bring myself to do that.) I still think strapless may have b...

Ken, thanks so much for your post. I have general soreness near the surface, and it turns out I have a stress fracture. For future reference of anyone who might be researching the same issue: Perhaps I should not have been rowing strapless as a newby. I suspect I was pushing too forcefully on the ba...

arms-only rowing?

Turns out that niggling pain on the top of my foot is a metatarsal stress fracture. I cannot row conventionally until this is healed. Any suggestions on how to go about rowing arms-only? Should I jury-rig the seat so that it doesn't slide (and how)? Thank you so much for any advice you can give. I c...

An intriguing idea, given how injury prone I am. Did you swap mile for mile, or should one put in more miles on the erg? Thanks!

I come at this from a very different angle - weak abs after my second pregnancy - but I think you might benefit from the same approach. When you row, or do any exercise, be certain to engage your abs (basically, suck them in). I had a lot of ab pain when I started running again after recovery, until...

Hello!

Hi everyone, I've owned my own Concept2 D for a couple of weeks now, and I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a 42-year-old mother of two pre-schoolers who is easing back into serious running after five years of bare-maintenance jogging. Well, I'm trying to be a serious runner again, but I've been pl...

Thanks, John! I've been using old running shoes, so maybe that is the problem.

I'm not sure what qualifies as a hard rubber sole. Are there special rowing shoes?

new to rowing - pain on the top of foot

Hello, everyone - I recently purchased a Concept2 and I'm really enjoying it. I've been rowing for two weeks. I have no pain while I am actually rowing, but at other times of day I notice pain on the top of my left foot. I am rowing strapless, as that seems to help me push back more forcefully with ...
