OTW Rower Trying to Make Lightweight Weigh-In

I have recently transitioned into the Lightweight 4+ division rowing on the water. At the next race the maximum weight is 130 lbs (as opposed to 135) and I am 129.5 pounds exactly. With Nationals right around the corner it's impossible to compete anywhere else. No matter how many fruits and vegetabl...

Handicap?

I am not mainly an indoor competitor. I only use the ergs for training during the winter, but I do attend the Brigantine Greenhead Sprints annually and will be competing in the CRASH-B's next year if all goes well. This summer I suffered a rather crippling injury and underwent massive surgery to ess...

Well, as mentioned, a Crew that has rowed together for a very long time usually seems to turn itself. But even in 8's things can get a little tricky with floating debris and... getting stranded. Our 4 is coxed from the bow (which is a nice change) so they can see a little better. But sometimes I wis...

I just rowed a 2:16 for 500m! I just injured my shoulder so this is an absolutely fantastic time for me. My PB for 500m is 1:51, so I'm working to get back to that and drop those forty seconds. I felt like celebrating that I can row at all. :D

Hey, a lot of the new members of our crew have the same problem. Early roll-up. It can feel like as soon as you're at the release on the square that you get your oar out of the water and then you feel like you have to square up again. This is because many people tend to already be driving back their...

Well, I wound up racing anyway and it wasn't too painful. We placed 2 of 19 and it was well worth it. I'm staying off the trailer and the docks until I'm positive that everything is the way it should be. I won't need surgery and apparently I avoided any long-lasting injuries. However, a few people w...

Amazingly my arm went back into its socket on its own just from the momentum of the bat pulling it back into position. I'm not entirely sure how it happened, I was a bit too busy screaming... It is a tough injury but the athletic trainer cleared me for water practice and light dryland today. I was a...

Recently Injured, racing impossible?

Two days ago I dislocated my left shoulder playing mass games. The Athletic Trainer looked at it and said that I need to go to a doctor immediately. My appointment is today. However, after the initial pain it wasn't unbearable and I did an 80 minute OTW piece. When it hurt for the last twenty minute...

Hrm, I think I'll give your method a try one of these days. It would be nice to get back to band aids and strip off the tape. But for on the water rowers that row daily and have blisters, I would suggest the waterproof liquid bandages. They stay on while you're rowing and peel off easily enough when...

NJ: I would love to have a dock, but I don't think the conflict about building one is with the city, it's with the owners of the property. We launch off of the shore by the Harris Industries storage facilities, not off the main dock. We also use the Maurice instead of Union Lake because our teams ou...

So far we don't have any races scheduled on the Maurice. Most of them for our season are on Lenape and Cooper. I don't know about the Holly City Regatta, but from what I know, we're not racing home. :(

Charon. Meh, I like the sound of it either way. That is how my English teacher pronounces it and I like it better that way, I think. Either way it comes dangerously close to sounding like Sharon and Karen. ^_^

If I ever get around to buying my own boat, I intend to name it Charon (Share-On). That's the name of the ferryman in Greek Mythology who rows the dead across the river Styx. I just always thought it had an interesting and obscure meaning. As for existing boats, my favorite name is "Blue By You".

The fund raiser would be a good idea, but we rent the space we use to store our shells. We can't build a dock because we don't own the property, and the owners don't necessarily want one. Right now most of our funds are concentrated toward equipment and now repairs since yesterday our novice boat cr...
