Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
@ Michelle: 300m difference in 30' favoring used gym machine over your new one can't be confidently ascribed solely to different day, different energy level imo. Hope the replacement seat sorts the problem for you. I increased my stroke length a bit at the front so it probably accounts for some of ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
I had a 2 hour circuit workout first (with some fast rowing) but felt energized after so did a 30' row on the gym's machine. 7351m which is my fastest by 60m! And 300m more than on my machine 3 days ago ☺

Many thanks again, Greg. I will work on that and see where it takes me.

Re: 30' row for distance
HI, I have some bad news for you...I think your technique looks good. You legs-body-arms sequencing on drive looks great. Same thing in terms of your arms-body-legs sequence on recovery. You do a much better job getting into the body forward angle than I do. You initiate the drive very well. You ma...

Re: 30' row for distance
Ok, if its a test, it can go "wrong" if it was easy and you could nail it every time you would not fully commit. Part of your problem could be that train very versatile, fine ofcourse, but this way non of the movements become 100% natural. It certainly makes it tougher. A few possible tips. Divide ...

Re: 30' row for distance
Other point, you certainly should not race all your training. I don't race all my training, it just happens that the 30' row is one of those test sessions. In our indoor training program, 1 rowing session a week is progressive intervals adding speed, then once every 2 weeks we do a "test" piece and...

Re: 30' row for distance
I would want to be over my quads more to get more length. You are pretty straight up and down and seem to use arms to start the stroke. I would think about hinging over my quads, loading; then pushing the footplates away like you would the ground on a deadlift. Then the back swings then the arms pu...

Re: 30' row for distance
Went 30' again tonight hiding everything but the rate and timer. A very steady 7084m without taking any easier stroke anywhere. 2:07.2-2:07.7-2:07.2-2:07.0-2:05.7 is much better already, just lacking some speed. I did do heavy deadlifts this morning and another 30' row last night so not fresh at all...

Re: 30' row for distance
I know I'll probably get chastised for this but one thought is that for your size your stroke rate might be kind of low. I could see even with decent form you may be in the situation of losing a lot of momentum on the flywheel with each pull. Maybe kicking up the SPM a bit and making each stroke le...

Re: New Model D
The emails I have exchanged with the company don't seem to support the fact that it is normal for the seat to be so stiff even if new. Cleaning the rail did not change anything and there was barely any trace of wearing even after multiple uses so it doesn't look like it applies to my erg. Waiting fo...

Re: 30' row for distance
Hahaha! Strange, I have never seen Michelle used for a guy (even in English). So no, not a guy  I understand my current time is good (well my best time from last year, not so much this year), but am mostly annoyed at never being able to complete the piece without taking recovery intervals thro...

Re: 30' row for distance
Hi Greg, Thank you for the suggestions. I will definitely try these variations, I think the progressive stroke rate might be the hardest one! I live alone but I will also try to get a video for some technique feedback. I don't pretend to have amazing technique so maybe there are indeed some easy fix...

Re: 30' row for distance
You are far too fit and far too experienced for the guys, like me, who have responded to have faster 30' times! And you know how to row. I hope it is equipment related. Have you tried a diferent machine? Different drag factors? Is the PE of being inside looking at numbers on a dumb machine messing ...

Re: 30' row for distance
I have rowed unstrapped before but not recently, I will give it another try to see where I stand right now. My sequence seems ok. I will have to see about wasting momentum at the top of my finish as I do hit my chest with the handle every time. I also wonder if my seat being really stiff (Concept 2 ...

30' row for distance
Hi, So I'm first and foremost and outrigger canoe and dragon boat paddler but we use the erg as cross training during our winter season. We have a once weekly intervals workout that progresses through the season, and once every 2 weeks we have another workout where we alternate 30', 15' and 2x8' for...
