Re: Long distance rows
I may be a rare one here. My shortest row on the erg is an hour; I go up to 2.5 hours, usually listening to a book on tape, sometimes just focusing on technique for parts and then going to a podcast. I try to row ten perfect strokes at a time, and see how long I can maintain my concentration. use th...

Re: What OTW Training have you done today
Got out on Saturday in a borrowed fluid mw 1x in Sarasota, sculled about 2k to get set for race on Sunday (thank you Billy Cox!). First day on the water since early September. Raced Sunday in brutal crosswind, second on the water in a D Masters 1x. rowed a quad w some buddies from Potomac in the pm ...

Re: What OTW Training have you done today
Byron you maniac! I've been absent for months - recovering from a close encounter with a dump truck while cycling last fall. Noticed there's a new shell under your feet - do I see a Fluid, or is that just the cold water craft? Havent' gotten to Lansing at all, but hope to get there at some point - w...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Most veteran rowers have exactly the same problem. Leadville is _already_ there, and he has eons to go before he is 60 years old. ranger Rangerboy - you still haven't answered my question. How can you, as one who has never finished a race otw, know what it takes to win one? I'd remind you that your...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Short at the catch. Not near enough compression. Sure, I keep working on this. I am _much_ longer than I used to be, though. On the erg, the front of my seat now comes six inches from front-stops, and I use the same stroke OTW. Checking the boat at the catch due to diving and dropping the hands and...

Here is another of those bad videos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Szk_XslR-ws ranger Rangerboy you are even worse than I thought. Let me recount the ways. Short at the catch. Re: Ranger's training thread
Knowing what races are being held, when and where, is a start, no? The "plan" is to get to as many of them as I can. One a weekend is a limit, but beyond that, just practical affairs (job, wife, children, etc.) and weather will deter me. So, at max, I can row in seven head races this fall, one each...

Re: Ranger's training thread
BTW, for lightweights, at least, it looks as though 8.5 SPI is "rowing well" OTW. OTW, 8.5 SPI corresponds to 15 seconds per 500m over erg times at the same rate and 13 SPI. For instance, 1:34 @ 32 spm (13 SPI) is rowing well OTErg. At 15 seconds per 500m faster than OTW times at the same rate, tha...

sculling really isn't that complicated That's an odd reason for you to spend a lifetime studying it and teaching it to others. But if you say so, o.k. Poetry isn't complicated, either, even though, after centuries of reflection on it, by some of the best minds born, no one has figured it out. range...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Hey Byron Pretty good tail for that quad and great competition. There were at least three very fast boats in that event. Can you imagine rangerboy in a quad or heaven forbid a double? Shudder!!!! The gentleman I paired up with for the E ltwt 2x is about ten years older than me. Never rowed together ...
