Rigging for the less than average person

I recently learned to scull, and got a beautiful lightweight Kaschper Raven single, which I am loving (although the weather has been poorly cooperative). Obviously I just need to get lots of time on the water, which will improve my rowing the most, (and I might try some of the head races next fall),...

Re: The TimbukTOO/TIMBUK2 Team Room SEASON 2010

I'm sorry, you great women and men of TimbukTOO, but I'm jumping ship to join my local rowing club's team. I'm not participating in the Holiday Challenge, because I'm gone for 2 weeks, but it was last year's Holiday Challenge that got me onto my erg. I must admit, rowing on the water is a lot more f...

Re: The TimbukTOO/TIMBUK2 Team Room SEASON 2010

I popped in at the end of the day and finished off the challenge, as I am sure others did as well

Re: The TimbukTOO/TIMBUK2 Team Room SEASON 2010

I had a great row on the water today, beautiful conditions, rowed port as part of the stern stroke pair, so was helping set the pace. We rowed a long distance - all my OTW row distances are gross estimates, and any times invalid, but probably went even farther than the 8,000 I logged. Unfortunately,...

Re: The TimbukTOO/TIMBUK2 Team Room SEASON 2010

Thanks, brotherjim, it was a really fantastic trip. The only downside was the erg on the ship, which was really bad (not a concept rower or one I have ever heard of), with few options for exercise! I am however trying to make up for it. That's a pretty significant ride across America! Don't diminish...

Re: The TimbukTOO/TIMBUK2 Team Room SEASON 2010

Great rowing, y'all. Jim, hope you are feeling better. I've had my own problems too this week, not so bad. I'll be off the charts after tomorrow's row. Hubbie and I have a great trip to the Arctic Circle, checking out the polar bears on spitsbergen island, leaving daughter and mother-in-law at home,...

Re: The TimbukTOO/TIMBUK2 Team Room SEASON 2010

Sounds interesting, will give it a try. Although once I stopped pulling on the straps so much on the recovery, I had less problems with my back. Learned to erg strapless, which was necessary as my wome size 7.5 feet wouldn't stay in the mens size 10 on the club shell!

Re: The TimbukTOO/TIMBUK2 Team Room SEASON 2010

Wow, guys, what a great OTW row! My last one (and I am still a total newbie on the water) was miserable - couldn't get my act together, but tonight was great! Really got a sense of the efficiency of the stroke. Hands up first up the slide has got a real purpose - it sets you up well for the catch. Y...

Re: The TimbukTOO/TIMBUK2 Team Room SEASON 2010

So, here's a question, y'all (sorry, I'm in the South, although from CA to begin with. Rubs off with time). What do YOU like to do, with regards to crosstraining or other activites to complement erging/or the rest of your life? I really enjoy my yoga classes, which seem to be very complementary to u...

@sandi,

It's not lack of fitness, it's just different muscle groups! Just think of it as good crosstraining.

Re: The TimbukTOO/TIMBUK2 Team Room SEASON 2010

Go team, way to row! Personal shout-out - I've passed my first lifetime million, which is nearly all since I started last November. Am back to hot humid weather after the great Pacific Northwest, but at least am back at the erg.

Re: The TimbukTOO/TIMBUK2 Team Room SEASON 2010

I'm off in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and so away from my ergometer. Had a really lovely kayak trip on Alta Lake at Whistler BC. Thankfully the rowing has given me some decent arm strength. Sorry not be to adding to the rowed meters right now, but will be back to it this weekend.

Re: The TimbukTOO/TIMBUK2 Team Room SEASON 2010

I'm slowing down just a little bit, basically to work on form. You guys probably won't notice it too much, unless you look at my times and see how I'm crawling! I realized I've been relying on the straps to pull me back on the slide. That's fine if you stick to erging, but since the shells have univ...

Re: The TimbukTOO/TIMBUK2 Team Room SEASON 2010

The weather cooperated for the morning; it was beautiful. I have blisters on both hands, and my arms and legs are tired! Lots to think about when adding in rows to the whole equation! Now, how to enter the meters???? I know I get credit for something, the soreness tells me so! But it would all be a ...
