I read this in rowing faster as a good workout program for increasing vo2 max and race speed. I am a senior in high school and have been on a couple of recruiting trips. I pull 6:27 and from experience i know that they will expect you to be under 6:30. Don't worry though i am sure you can get there just put a lot of mileage in, start lifting if you don't already and you should see a big drop...
