Aside from the rowing factor make yourself liked amoungst the coaches maffins etc never go amiss. Also make sure a nice injury free person that always helps. Row shorts

I own one pair which are Rough Trade a small company which have since gone out of buisness. They have a double lined bottom which makes it a little more comfortable, most other rowing shorts i have seen are just cycle shorts with out the chamis. I cut mine out because they can distort your technique...

Im a teen compeditive rower and my 5k is considered slow at 20.29, im 5,7 and 70kgs and have been rowing for 2 years the erg listed above was done during a bad week at the end of the winter season.
