Re: Lack of Leg Power ?

I'm wondering if that did not impact the length of stroke. It is the total area under the force curve that is important: height and length. I'm not sure however all seems good. Even if my length is somewhat shortened I would think more drive from the legs is desirable. Of course this begs the quest...

Re: Lack of Leg Power ?

Problem solved !! This morning I figured out the issue with my lack of leg drive. In my mind I thought that if I could just get my heels elevated a bit more I could incorporate my entire foot not just the balls of my feet. I simply moved the footboard up as high as it would go to #1. Magically i am ...

Re: Lack of Leg Power ?

Appreciate the responses. I will try to get a short video this weekend. I'll take a look at my force curve.
Thanks again.

Lack of Leg Power ?

I am having an issue with my leg drive. Having a bit of a gut it's tough to get recovery with my shins perpendicular to the floor but I do get pretty "compressed" I am using some Xeno DVD to row and somewhere in there as well as on line it is stated that most of the power comes from the leg drive as...

How often should I row?

So in weight training there are many theories: some say lift every day splitting upper and lower body parts. Others say work upper and lower in one session but give at least 48 hours for muscle recovery. You have torn down fibers and they need time to rebuild. With the erg is there a general consens...

Pete Plan Questions

Well been away way too long. Need to get back on track. Pete's Plan looks like a good disciplined place to start. Wolverine way too much for me. I see 2 different versions of the Pets Plan which I have linked below. As what i would call a newbie is one version preferred over the other. It looks like...

Re: Basic Technique Question, very basic !

Sequence is: legs then body then arms then hands away then arms then body and finally legs So during the drive (power) phase it is body swing before arms and reverse for recovery ? Thank you. After speaking with several "accomplished" rowers i received differing opinions regarding the body swing/ar...

Basic Technique Question, very basic !

Question relates to the drive. I have been advised to do one of two forms 1. pull arms to chest, than input a slight body lean to say 10=11 o clock. Recover by first bringing torso to upright then straighten arms 2. after the drive with legs, before full pull with arms input the torso lean to 11 o c...

Re: Is a Concept 2 "good enough" ??

Thanks, Brianh I actually started with free weights; bent rows, incline flys, squats etc. i found I actually built muscle more efficiently with the Nautilus circuit. RE: coordination, balance etc. I see your point. You do need to use your musculature properly to "balance out" weights in certain exer...

Re: Is a Concept 2 "good enough" ??

Armando:

Appreciate your input.

I used to swim in high school. Now that is a killer workout.

I suppose for pecs and tris either body weight or basic dumbells and bench.

I am pretty stoked about breaking out the erg.

Besodes thats $52.50 a month for the gym that goes into my pocket.

Is a Concept 2 "good enough" ??

I have a Model D sitting in the corner. Purchased a few years ago and used a few times. many reasons. I have had a gym membership locally with a top of the line Nautilus circuit. I get a great workout in 25 minutes , High Intensity training, for those of you familiar with the method. Anyway just tur...

Re: Out of Shape

I believe your assumption about a symmetrical force curve is flawed. You're aiming to have as much area under the curve as possible, and given that your legs are much stronger than your arms that means that the curve will shoot up pretty quickly, stay high for a short while, then taper off (what ha...

Re: Out of Shape

drjay, I've found that stroke intensity is definitely the key to faster times for me. I'm also pretty new at this game, just 1.5M meters so far. I got a lot of value from watching Mike Spracklen's videos. He stresses a fast, intense stroke from catch to finish, with the recovery time varying to the...

Re: Out of Shape

With regard to arm pull and leg push, it is not so much how each contributes, but the sequence. The big muscles of the legs get the acceleration of the wheel started, then the back joins in, and finally the arms finish it off - but only after the legs are straight. A video would certainly help to c...

Re: Out of Shape

Good start. Don't worry about force, it's the distance the handle travels that counts, the further the better. So are you saying don't worry about the force curve or don't worry about force (effort put into drive)? I'm just thinking I should drive as hard as I can with a lower SPM or I feel like I'...
