Re: Help!!! I need some answer please
Glad back is feeling better so drifting off topic.... What is the secret to 70 pull-ups?? Have added these to workout past two months. Slow progress and now my shoulders get sore during any rowing session. sighJesmanuel wrote:I made a hard training and end with pull-ups (like 70).

Re: Turf toe or Gout?
From those that I know who've had the pain, it is intense. So much so that I'm thinking if in any doubt, it's probably not gout. It also seems to flare up intensely and subsequently go away.... but I'm no expert, perhaps the mild cases just don't get attention.

Re: Calorie counters on PM5 vs Fitbit
Hey guys, I set a few goals for calorie/weight loss and just curious if any of you have use a fitbit when rowing to keep track of calories? I noticed the PM5 claims that I'm burning approximately 40% more calories for the same amount of rowing that the fitbit is. I would guess (hope) the PM5 is mor...

Re: My New Erg Adventure for Weight Loss and Health!
Chris, Nice job getting started! I think BPP (Beginner Peter Plan) is a good way to work your way up focusing on a lot of SS and some intervals. Agree with others to take it slow early on - it is a long program and times are a lot less important than mileage, form and consistency. I just started we...

Re: My New Erg Adventure for Weight Loss and Health!
Good deal! Found slight lower back tenderness as I row more meters with the bpp. Focusing on trying to keep upright; tend to roll my lower back as I reach for the catch position. Have even thought of using a back brace to aid but haven't yet. I've been surprised to see how staying focused on the rec...

Re: 2K Fitness Test for Job
I suspect 12 weeks in would see you passing the qualifications requirement if you are starting from a reasonable base. If starting from a reasonable fitness base (I.e., reasonable for a state trooper - one going on tax dollars with the expectation to catch criminals) one should be *fit enough* to p...

Re: 2K Fitness Test for Job
I am a park ranger. I have the option of a rower test or a four part test that includes a 1.5 mile run, 300 m sprint, max push-ups in a minute, and max sit-ups in a minute. In the past I have chosen the run option because it is much easier than the rower. However, I would like to push myself and tr...

Re: 2K Fitness Test for Job
And to add, I'd work on cardio (and of course technique.) Assuming you're otherwise healthy and mobile, you certainly have the strength to move a very low friction slide. Within a short period you should have the heart and lungs for this short row.

Re: 2K Fitness Test for Job
As a general measure of fitness why isn't it correct to feel a heavier person should have better (short row) times? E.g., take two six foot guys in good shape; one a lean 170 the other a muscular 220. If the goal is a fitness comparison I'd expect the 220 guy to have better times. No? Btw what type ...

Re: My New Erg Adventure for Weight Loss and Health!
Now the real fun is going to begin - I think I'll start the Beginner PP in couple of weeks when I get back into town (have to work out of town for an entire week). Seemed like a bit much a month ago. Sad I won't be able to row but it will be a good chance to let me body rest up before the 24 week f...

Re: How good is a 1:30/500m time?
No idea if i would ever reach 1:30!!!! One stroke think i pulled a 1:30 before  I was spoiled to see how quickly the seconds improved early on. Hit 1:42 and it's taken months to get to 1:40. OP is presumably in excellent aerobic condition so no low hanging fruit there. Getting from his 1:35 ty...

Re: How good is a 1:30/500m time?
Kinda new to this but the high 1:30s seem achievable. The 1:10s an order or two of magnitude more difficult. Virtually impossible for mortals. Within weeks I was able to hit 1:40 (which is closer to your time) and I will never, ever reach 1:30.

Re: My New Erg Adventure for Weight Loss and Health!
Jimmy1 - have you seen the beginner PP page? As stated, I just started it so if you decide to try it let me know and we can go through the same pain together! I'm going to follow it but also going to do the C2 individual and team challenges next month. OR, I'm going to give it my best shot. I have ...
