Now that's a novel idea, pulling one's own weight. Perhaps not but it is an important difference between OTW and on the erg. a taller rower has to pull him/herself further up the slide. Not necessarily. Michael Phelps is almost a foot taller than me, his wingspan is a foot wider than mine, but his ...

Good work. If you try again, start at 1:52.5, try to hold this pace throughout and pick up the pace at the end. Don't slow down in sections 2 and 3.

But how else could you explain the slim differences between a LW and HW on the erg? A fair conclusion that one would have to go with is that as distance goes to infinity, relevance of mass to performance goes to zero. Too bad not a huge number of people have sat through 100km to see if there's some...

Nav made the point earlier that all training can be considered to be interval training. I agree with this and think the tautology is useful because it reveals that the distinction between continuous and interval training has covered up a lot of differences within what we call continuous training, on...

1. I used to row like s%#t. I now row well. 2. Indeed I will. We are upstanding folks. We pay our bets, if we lose. 3. 4. At the end of the month, I am going to do a FM@1:45 5. My attempt to get better has involved improving my technique. That work is done. I now row well (13 SPI). 1. I used to row...

I agree with John. I think you can do it but as you are not experienced you should negative split. Try 154, 153 152 151 (or faster if possible). Even split is faster but negative split is safer.

Re: Same As It Ever Was...

There was an earlier reference to Ranger Rick and the lyrics to The Talking Heads Once In A Lifetime - a few more come to mind with the continuation of this saga/thread... You may ask yourself how do I work this You may ask yourself am I right am I wrong You may say to yourself my God what have I d...

Ranger, your predictions, training advice, and sledging of your rivals are becoming very boring. May I suggest you start up a new thread on Bergsonian time and the western-scientific spatialization of time and its relation to rowing. You were really onto something there but the discussion was sidetr...

 No mania here  What I was really meaning was a few predictor workouts ahead of an all-out(?) 2K but under race diet/hydration conditions. 1500m at race pace and rate might be a good place to start. As Mike already hinted, this opening performance may not be a good prediction of what is ...

1st base: row (and honestly report) an 8 x 500m 3:30 rest workout. What is this mania for predictive workouts? Surely there is no need for a prediction! He just rowed a 7:11 2k! There is no more accurate way to predict a 2k time than doing a 2k! In ranger's language "the truth machine" is not a pro...

No matter how hard I train I always have one rest day each week. I consider the rest day an insurance against overtraining. I hope that I am able to recover daily from my training but just in case there is a build up of training stress from which I haven't recovered... On this day I rest. Completely...
