Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

I should have heeded Jack's advice. :D I think the BPP will be enough for me this fall. 6 sessions a week is simply too much to fit in to my week at this point. I wish you all the best with your rowing.

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

Started out too ambitious. Tried for 1:54 but ended with 1:57.6. As you can see, I flagged considerably after the first 4. Alas, this gives me a good idea about how to pace the next sets. Feels good to get wasted by the erg once again! Looking forward to distance rowing tomorrow. Time Meters SPM HR ...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

I think I'll hop on board this group. Eliot: 38y 150lbs 5'11" I haven't seriously rowed in 4 years. Even then, I wasn't much for training for the competitive distances and simply used the rower to enhance my aerobic fitness. I still have the Concept 2 in my office, use it occasionally, but have spen...

Re: Rowing at Elevation

The scientific evidence for better results at sea level from training at high altitude is seriously lacking. Consider doing some research of journal articles to see the variety of conclusions. I have heard of the "live high, train low" theory. The basis is that you cannot train at optimal level at a...

Re: to run or not to run

I have a problem with any and all statements that revert to how we were "designed" or "evolved" to run. This is nonsense. We adapt very rapidly to new ways of doing things. Run barefoot, by all means. Run with shoes, responsive or not. If you get injured in either case, it may have nothing to do wit...

Re: Long distance rows

I agree wholeheartedly with enrage and SaBhava. How easy it is to feel that we need something for our mind to do other than focusing on what our body is already doing. I find concentrating on my breathing to be both enriching and at times maddening, but I continue to try to improve my focus and the ...

Re: Ranger's training thread

Race preparation never made anyone any better. Anyone else--past, present, or future--would feel exactly the same as I do about these things. The above are samples of the generalizing that ranger loves to do. I've found that this kind of talk encourages others to do the same. Beware the general cas...

Re: Ranger's training thread

Something that has always perplexed me about American bacon is how little meat there actually is on a rasher. Our bacon has far more lean meat on it. I was once told that in North America the pig is cut primarily for hams, whereas in UK it is cut more for bacon. I'm no expert but maybe there is a b...

Re: Ranger's training thread

You can only row badly for short stretches, is that it? How unfortunate, that's actually a quote from whp4. Normally I'd give you a warning, but so soon after having been banned for a week this can only be deliberate. See you in a week if you choose to return, as I hope you will. This is all very s...

Re: A Project Management Approach to Lightweight Rowing

I am certainly not an expert but this seems like a terrible plan. It appears to be thought up by some self-absorbed college rower who thinks that he can create great rowers using his own personal trial plan as a model. In no way does this plan account for individual differences. It also does not rec...
