Re: Ranger's training thread
C2 description of the "Health and Fitness" board: "General discussions about getting and staying fit that don't relate directly to your indoor rower." Seems like a fit.

Re: Ranger's training thread
Damn, and just as the most recent wave of new readers were beginning to get him wound up. Will someone let us know if the UK forum has any highlights we really shouldn't miss?

Re: Ranger's training thread
1:44 Base Pace FM pace This made me laugh. Comedy genius that you are. I'm trying to figure out what the link is between 1:44, your base pace and your FM pace: about 16secs/500m I'd think. On a similar note, when you're formulating your reasons for not doing the FM until The Fall, can I ask that yo...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Load it too much at the start, however, and you're wasting energy *otw* because of the problems with slip that have been mentioned earlier, amongst others. So it's better to apply a somewhat smaller force for a greater proportion of the stroke, rather than a larger force that diminishes more quickl...

Re: Ranger's training thread
60min, 1:48 @ 24 spm (11.5 SPI), steady state, at 155 bpm, 75% HRR, should come along pretty easily now. If it 'should come along pretty easily now ', why can't you do even half this time at that pace? I am working on technique at the moment. When I have fully mastered the dynamics of low drag, I w...

Re: Ranger's training thread
I'm assuming you just pushed the FM time trial out another month No, not at all. I think a month will be plenty of time to get used to this low drag rowing. I now have all of the other skills needed to take advantage of it. The volume of work I am doing is fine for FM preparation, too, as is my HR....

Re: Ranger's training thread
This one has to be #1 on the all-time Ranger list. Is there anything better? Byron, you are our historian, what do you think?ranger wrote:Given even minimal decline with age (e.g., a second over 2K per year), a 6:16 at 60 is 23 seconds better than a 6:16 at, say, 37.

Re: Ranger's training thread
My lwt stepson just had a "battery of tests" heading into his on-water season. 2k, rest 2 hrs, 2k. 6:16 and 6:22. He was pleased with the first, not so much with the second. Don't know what he rated. Nice predictive workout for a day of trials/finals.

When I am Bob's age, if I make it that far, I can only hope and dream that I will generate the momentum he does! I'd venture that holds for ALMOST all of us out here in awe of what he does.

Re: Ranger's training thread
Has Roy took him out cycling :) What is it about this thread and past participles? Erging grammarians? Who'd have ever thought it possible back when a certain generation spent a year diagramming sentences in elementary school. Youngsters on this thread are probably wondering what you're talking abo...

Something going on at Birmingham airport. Some are reporting it has been closed due to an unspecified 'incident'. If we lived in different times one might be able to go on for pages about what might be going on there today

Byron - just go back and read some of the old stuff, if you must. Can't imagine anything he's posted overseas has a different accent.

You show that simple piece that you do every day and everybody here will give you the respect you long for. He's not looking for respect. He's looking for attention. Here is my challenge to everyone (Mike included): no more responding to anything Ranger might post after 1-1-2011, assuming, of cours...

Re: 2k time for university
Based on the experiences of my step-son about 4 years ago, to be recruited to the major 'large university' programs you will need to be well below 6:20 on the erg and at the very least 6'2" (preferably taller.) He was 6', 170, a sculler, and pulled about 6:24 as a junior in HS. Very little interest ...
