Re: Intervals and Weight Training
Thanks for the advice chaps. It is mainly time constraints that makes intervals more appealing. A short sweet intense session is much easier to work around my somewhat hectic life. I am going to give it a go for a few weeks to see how it pans out. My technique has alwas been solid (it needs to be on...

Re: Intervals and Weight Training
Diet is pretty good. Increased my protein and dropped the carbs. Just need to knock off about 25 pounds (Have about 45 to lose) to have me looking half decent. My body has toned up underneath the blubber from the kettlebells these past two months so i just need to accelerate the fat loss which is wh...

Intervals and Weight Training
After far too many false dawns I am currently doing weights and kettlebells three times per week for a duration of about 45 mins per session but wanted to know the best way of increasing my chances of losing some blubber over the next two months prior to a holiday in the US. Is minute on and minute ...

How can one be incompetent at something one has never attempted? In case you have forgotten this is a training thread on the Concept2 website. I like the Erg. A ...

Re: Ranger's training thread
even to a layman like me A "layman"? Does that mean a "non-rower"? I hope not, given your comments on this thread. Post some video of your OTW rowing. Let's see what you can do. Make a couple of passes by the dock, doing 1:52 @ 30 spm, as I just have. Let's see your boat run. ranger Hey fucko i don...

Re: Ranger's training thread
I suspect our hero has been using some editing software to try to reduce the footage that shows his rowing to something that's unwatchable, so that the folks who can row (Nav, Al, Byron and Mike) don't have anything they can constructively comment on. He doesn't want to show his faults like letting...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Why don't you put your video camera on the end of your boat and post us a video of your fast rowing OTW, like Tinpusher did on his blog over here in Europe? Sure. That would be fun to see. How do you mount the camera on your boat? Is there a gizmo that will do this effectively, or do you just tape ...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Help! I'm new to this forum and Indoor Rowing. I've been reading through the Ranger Training Thread Forum and came across the below... related to a post I submitted (Titled: Beginners? 500m Split, Damper & Leg Force Relationship). Have I done something stupid or asked a question I shouldn't have? T...

Re: Ranger's training thread
No rowing OTW yet today because of the wind and rain. More rotten luck on getting that 1K trial OTW done. Yesterday it was fishermen. Today it is wind and rain. I wonder what tomorrow will bring. What are the odd's on an early snowfall Byron? Iv got ten quid burning a hole in my pocket at the moment!

Re: Ranger's training thread
You will never get anywhere near 6.16. We know it. You know it.The rabid raccoon in your garden knows it. My dog knows it. We'll know my chances of pulling 6:16 for 2K long before I even start sharpening. A FM @ 1:48 predicts a 6:16 2K. A FM @ 1:46... ranger NO_WE_WON'T. A fuckwit writing A FM @ 1....

A 6:16 2K OTErg is just a tick off the 30s lwt American record by this guy: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.nysun.com/pics/5035.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.nysun.com/national/olympian-battles-olympic-bureaucracy/80571/&h=500&w=363&sz=240&tbnid=izpD4annuYrZtM:&tbnh=92&tbnw=67&prev=/searc...

Re: Ranger's training thread
As ever, he's going about things the right way: open minded, searching for good coaches and information, and with a decent sense of humility. "Right" way? Sure, for Roy. But I would never go about things that way--and haven't. It's no fun, and can be harmful to your chances of success. It's much mo...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Knowing what races are being held, when and where, is a start, no? The "plan" is to get to as many of them as I can. One a weekend is a limit, but beyond that, just practical affairs (job, wife, children, etc.) and weather will deter me. So, at max, I can row in seven head races this fall, one each...

Re: Ranger's training thread
When I pull 6:16 at 60 and 160 lbs., my VO2max will be 78.5. Anything better than 37 is "excellent" for a 60-year-old. Because of my poor technique back in 2003, the VO2max calculator underestimated my VO2max at the time. If I had been rowing well at low drag, I would have been 7 seconds per 500m f...
