Re: Catamaran conversion
Here's a photo of another rowing catamaran, an Aqua Cat: http://www.adirondackrowing.com/Aqua%20Cat.jpg I should think that this photo would give you good ideas on width between hulls, mounting a sliding seat, and installing riggers/oarlocks. If you set it up so that there is a standard sculling dis...

Re: ERG or Open Water - A Conflict
I agree about the boat club idea. I'm only 62, and getting a light boat off my roof is not yet a deal-breaker for me. I have rowed a C2 for a number of years, but I am a novice sculler. Personally, I think it is worthwhile to get out on the water. It is such a different experience. In particular, yo...

Re: Virtual reality rowing
All very good suggestions. I did some AR (Actual Reality) sculling this past Saturday in an open water shell on Lake Union, in Seattle. Although it didn't rain, it was about 25 degrees F. My socks froze to the stretchers! Now, if you could get a similar experience in VR, count me in!

Bantam Sculls?
Has anyone used Concept 2 bantam sculls? I am 60+ and am looking at these oars to row a small wherry-style boat.

Re: Virtual reality rowing
I find that whenever I want to simulate rowing reality, I just put my erg in the shower stall and row under a cold shower.

Re: Boy's in the Boat
One of my favorite books ever! Living nearby, it was fun to go to the Conibear Shellhouse on the UW campus. It has been totally rebuilt into a modern structure, but the '36 Olympic boat still hangs from the ceiling: http://www.huskycrew.com/conis11.jpg

Re: SUP conversion oar board - great idea or gimmick?
Here is a kayak conversion: http://www.easyriderkayaks.com/tatoosh_rowing.htm
I found a used one, with an Oarmaster I and wood oars for $2100: http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/boa/5901009599.html
That might be a good roughwater solution.

Re: SUP conversion oar board - great idea or gimmick?
I've been looking at SUP conversions with some interest. There are 3 sliding rig setups that seem easily available in the U.S. Alden Surf Scull ($700): http://rowalden.com/product/sup-surf-scull-rig/ Whitehall Oar Board ($1,000): https://www.oarboard.com/product/oar-board-rower/ Virus RowBoard ($120...

Moov HR compatible with PM5?
I saw a review of the Moov HR heart rate monitor http://welcome.moov.cc/moovhr/ , which fits into a sweatband and monitors your heart rate from the pulse at your temple. I would love to get this, but I'm unclear as to what the technical requirements are to transmit to the PM5. Any suggestions on how...

Re: Does the Model C need a retro fit for PM3?
All newer monitors should work on a model C - see above, you'll need the retrofit monitor arm. At $180 for the retrofit kit, when an entire brand new Model D with PM5 is only $900, it is hard to justify buying that kit for my Model C. Seems like I should just wait for it to die someday and then jus...
