Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Having had a two week break after W3 of the BPP, I feel like I'm starting all over again somewhat. Took the pace down today for a 2K after a longer warm up than usual - aiming for a decent WU and CD each time now, rather than just when I feel I have the energy. Anyway, then I did my second ever 500m...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
After a couple of weeks away I got on the erg this morning. Unsurprisingly I was far less able than I was two weeks ago, and I thought I was struggling then! Deciding whether to go back to the beginning of the BPP or start again at W3. Either way, I will be starting again at a slower speed than the ...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Nick sensible attitude to have, I'm currently looking for a job that involves me erging for around up to an hour a day six days a week, no luck so far but I live in hope... Let me know if you find it! If you do, as I'm on the BPP I wonder if they offer part time hours, as well? @mininick - don't le...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Having to take it a bit easier this week. Was meant to be my (late) third row of BPP W3 but I'm distracted this week by other stuff. I have to use my abdominal muscles quite a lot for work (I'm an opera singer) and they're not used to all the extra work I'm putting them through at the moment. Unfort...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
I attempted something I'm obviously not capable yet. BPP 6.2, the 3x2000 on 4 minutes rest was my Sunday night workout. The first one went smooth in 7:49. While resting for the second one I decided on pushing for a PR (currently 7:30). First 500 done at 1:47, held 1:50 for the next 700. 800 to go I...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Such impressive stuff going on in this topic! BPP W3D2 today. 2x2000m/4 mins rest. Target: 2:16.0 avg 1. 2:14.8 / r28 2. 2:11.8 / r29 Pretty happy with that. I was probably only at 60-70% effort for the first 1500m of both and then between 80-90% for the last 500m. Felt like I could have given more ...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
PP Beginners Week 5 Day 3 7000m row - second of the week. Target 2:12.8 Actual: 2:11.8, so pretty pleased to have just beaten my pace for the first 7k of the week. @mininick - read your post and feel for you. I felt the same last week, two awful sessions. Just keep going, I am new to this game and ...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Mininik, some unsolicited ideas: 1. Sometimes when it feels heavy, I reduce drag just to promote a quicker feel in the legs. 2. Sometimes when I can't break through a distance, I start a few seconds slower than average goal pace then work it down through the piece so that I have more at the end. 3....

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
After the disastrous first attempt at this two days ago, I followed most people's advice and gave myself another day off before attempt no. 2 today. To remind people, I HD'ed 1300m in to the 6000m at my normal pace and wasn't able to maintain any sort of pace really to get the metres done. Slate wip...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Very disappointing session today. W3D1 of the BPP, meant to be 6000m. Target: 2:18.00 (same as usual) HD after 1300m. Tried again, hoping to just get the metres done and not worry too much about the rate. HD again after less than 500m. I just felt wrong today. There are a number of possible reasons ...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Question about drag factor within the BPP: I've been at 125 for all of it so far. Anything less and I don't feel like I'm getting enough resistance in the drive. I've noticed most people on the PP or BPP use a lower df, normally 110/115. Is 125 too high for this kind of plan? What might be the benef...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
One thing about the PPB that I read in it but doesn't seem to be practiced is that the distance row is about extending distance each week and not distance AND intensity (speed). But I may be wrong. Adding distance creates a stress and then you double dip when you also try to go faster. If it is get...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Nick, 1.5 to 2 watts per kilo of "fit" wgt. is a smart first year goal. Your fit or normal weight according to adult male BMI tables (which do factor in hgt) is 68 kilos. So 102 to 136 watts is a good power target for most of your training. You will do some low aerobic zone training below that thre...
