Re: Concept2 Logbook - Ranked Workouts - Dynamic Age Groups

See logbook - rankings - age range - custom. I'm 80 this August and sometimes set 75 for lower, no upper limit. I know already that those below 75 are faster than me.

Re: SUB 40MIN 10K TIPS

David - this is also my goal for the current season. Did so in 2017 season but had less time on the ergo since then. I liked the Peat Plan (using that spelling as it easily goes up in smoke) though prefer to apply the principles more loosely and still see improvements. Another thing which works for ...

Concept2 Logbook - Ranked Workouts - Dynamic Age Groups

This is a great way to see how you compare on different distanced pieces to others in your age group using the filters. However whereas the age groups are in fixed 10 year bands (30-39, 40-49, 50-59 etc) I wonder if it would be difficult to add an additional option (whilst retaining the existing one...

Re: How do you STOP Counting the strokes..

How about counting only each fifth or tenth stroke to free your mind up in between times?

Re: Pete Plan - Advice

Given you have already rowed HM, PP might be better than BPP. You could jump on to BPP at say week 13. Whether PP or BPP you might drop the weekly sprint sessions in favour of rest days or more SS distance.

Re: How do you STOP Counting the strokes..

I find a great deal of variety by counting down from 8 per 100 m some of the time and up to 8 the rest of the time -with the occasional 0 or 9 to get back on track!

Re: Pete Plan 2017

@jans I note the improvement in your pace from 2:11.5 to 2:9.5 from last week to this, this is improvement! Also your SPM < 20 suggests there must be some semblance of efficiency here, so legs must be working! Make sure to experiment with drag factor - lowering it might challenge and in turn improve...

Re: Pete Plan 2017

@nhopkins I find my sit bones ache after around 5k unless I deploy my seat cushion which is just a few layers of bubble wrap taped together with parcel tape. 1M metres so far on this season's current model, bubbles long popped in the pressured areas so now giving imaginary comfort!

Re: Pete Plan 2017

Decided to leave myself knocking at the door of season target 7:30 2k, missing by 1.2 s and resume another phase of distance/endurance work loosely aligned to PP! Had a few steady state 30' @ 20 rows since previous post and after cutting back to rowing once per day instead of twice and in much coole...

Re: Pete Plan 2017

Edging towards my 7:30 2km milestone: Attempt #1 Wednesday evening - went well under target 1:53 pace for 1400m then HD due to a lack of air and belief. Attempt #2 Thursday evening - better pacing but left something in the tank: Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M 7:32.8 2,000m 1:53.2 241 1129 26 1:53...

Re: Pete Plan 2017

Slow starting 6k strapless morning row:
Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M
30:00.0 6,932m 2:09.8 160 850 17

Followed by 10k teatime hard distance (a 20 sec PB)
Time Meters Pace S/M
40:03.0 10,000m 2:00.1 22

Consequently I crept over 1M for the season!

Re: Have you optimised your DragFactor?

Already understood the typical gym machine operating in dust-enforced low drag factor, my point being that novices set dampener to 10 as a matter of course even if they bounce off each attempt to pull. But that was taking us off-thread!

Re: Have you optimised your DragFactor?

I really like Carl's explanation which aligns with my own perception. I've found my own optimum drag factor around the 118 mark. If I crank it up, I just tire really quickly and can't get the revs up. So similarly if I was trying to bench press so many KG per minute, I could knock out 30 reps at 40 ...
