Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Paul, I agee that average split per interval going negative by a full second in each of several succeeding intervals, altho possible of execution, is not a sustainable rate of improvement. Those who claim this is the normative training experience probably shouldn't be calling out others for choosin...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Turboskiff, Could you undertake to increase our understanding of your understanding of [proper] negative splitting referencing these recent examples? Do we accept that flat pacing of intervals acceptable? Thanks. jr thanks. Flat pacing is of course acceptable and demanding if the level is chosen co...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
Pete trains exactly same way and i did get down to 5 x 1250m/4'r @ 1:52.8 ave sub max effort too in the past so i know what to do buddy  Paul G-dub is right. This is not a negative split as we understand it: 6:37.4 @ 1550m @ 2:08.1/24 6:37.1 @ 1550m @ 2:08.0/24 6:36.5 @ 1550m @ 2:07.9/24 2:08...

I don't understand this. 16K+ is exceptional. 17K is formidable. Only a few can hold < 1:46 for 60 minutes. Some cannot even do it for 2Kpaul45 wrote:17k is regarded by most as a proper PB

I think too that with age the possibility to do too much is self limiting.

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
I guess I'm surprised that I can't hit those same splits. Sub 1:50 at 24 spm. Impressive. Why not rate up? 800m is different to 500m more than the obvious. Has to be aerobic (>2 minutes) and the advantage of the start is soon lost and you have 700m out in the cold. Since you can pull those paces at...

Re: What time should i be aiming for on a 2k Test.
With a barrier like sub 7, which is of course not a barrier at all, trick is to train to the point where predictors put it beyond doubt, 8x500mR3:30 at 1:40 for example. Then you target say 6:58 maybe 6:56.
Once you are sub 7 the myth is busted and you will go further. Good luck!

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd
I believe Paul45 was the last to mention the 800m goal pace+1, 600m goal pace, 400m goal pace-1, wind it up and sprint tactics. Paul also describes an interesting 2k demystification or desensitization training strategy involving a once a week rate-restricted 2k over five weeks w/2" rate increase ea...

Re: Long Workout of the Day
Continuous half-marathons of ~1h 20m are commonplace. Sounds to me like your stroke does not begin with the legs but that you haul with your upper body. You should have the sensation of pushing the front of the machine away. Unless you have a specific need -- short sprints -- high drag offers nothing.

Re: Starting up after a year off
At 71 years maybe the knees aren't so good and 12-14 spm is comfortable. No harm done if drag and watts are low.

Interesting when you start to think how the Pete Plan meshes with the curve (or not).
