Re: lack of power
You'll probably get some differing views, but I think you're at a good age to hit the weights. I began weight training at around your age and it seemed at the time like a miracle. I got a lot stronger, my body got bigger, I was more explosive ... there was no down side. And I wouldn't worry much abo...

Re: Ranger's training thread
I've given up hope on you Rich. Sure. But luckily, you're not me. I am hard to discourage. Your low spirits and nay-saying have nothing to do with me. I'll keep working at it and working at it. And then, we'll see. Yes, we'll see. I look forward to rowing every day. And every day, I am getting bett...

Re: The bet--some history
Thu Apr 02, 2009 Then you will have no problem sending Henry a check for $1000 unless you verify your weight as a lightweight in a manner suitable to Henry and post a sub 6:40 2K with verification code before the end of this month. Indeed I will. Just as he will have no problem sending me $3000 whe...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Does it not trouble you that everyone with whom you correspond here has not a shred of respect for you, and that most openly loathe you? Why you (and others) would loathe a rower who is working on technique rather than fitness is a mystery to me, especially when that rower has three WR rows and the...

Re: Ranger's training thread
You claim to have friends. I've never been able quite to believe that and you are, after all, a pathological liar and a clinical narcissist. But let's say, for the point of argument, that it's true, that you actually have a friend. Have you ever made your friend aware of this site and your postings?...

Re: Ranger's training thread
No, Paul hasn't yet outdone my lwt 6:28 at 52. This last year, at 52, Paul pulled 6:34. No, Roy wasn't faster than I was 55-60, especially in competition. I pulled 6:29.7, without even preparing for it. The best Roy pulled was 6:38. Sorry, assface; the world records are theirs. Your excuses, howeve...

Re: Ranger's training thread
These speak volumes. 6:27.5, 6:28, 6:28.5, 6:29, 6:29.7, 6:30, 6:32, 6:32, 6:32, 6:32, 6:32, 6:33, 6:36, 6:37, 6:40, 6:41, 6:41, 6:42, etc. No other 50s veteran my size, rowing over the last 10 years, has anything that remotely resembles the quality of these 2Ks. ranger Your steady decline aside (a...

And bones and muscles, as we all know, have nothing to do with physiology. Jackass.ranger wrote:As I have been explaining, for older folks, the major stress of rowing well, taking good strokes, is skeletal-muscular, not physiological.

You've broken each of your ankles repeatedly? What does that mean? three times each? Four?ranger wrote:My achilles tendons were stressed by my ankles, which I sprained and broke repeatedly.

Re: Ranger's training thread
Your rallying cry of "but I didn't even prepare!" probably applies much more to your competition than to you. About time someone pointed out this bit of nonsense, the implication that everyone else was fully prepared, whatever the hell that means. Since the narcissist hasn't been able to get fully ...

Re: Weight Training Recovery and Erging
The only rule I've ever followed was don't lift two days in a row, and I've broken that one often enough. I'd say use your head. On days after you've lifted, maybe don't do sprint repeats on the erg, rather longer aerobic pulls. But play around. Let your body tell you what it can and cannot and want...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Yes, as I said, you reserve the right to prove me wrong by showing it. Unfortunately "saying" it, even if for 6 years continuously, doesn't mean it happened. The entire thread has been reduced to this one piece of evidence. Not really much else to talk about until you show this piece. If you were k...

Re: Ranger's training thread
If you just work on your fitness, failure is, necessarily, a failure of fitness. So if one works on fitness and ignores working on technique, weight control, developing racing toughness, etc., one's failure, should one fail, will be due to (lack of) fitness? You're such a fatuous shithead. And a co...

Re: Ranger's training thread
I am 60 years old. I am in no hurry. I am not preparing for any specific races. I am not on a team. I am out there by myself in the early morning hours, with no one to get me out of trouble if I need help. I am just learning to row. I am a world class welsher, liar, douchebag and a clinical narciss...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Roy has switched to cycling Sure, and why not? Given his training, Roy was just getting worse and worse at rowing. He didn't have any hope of besting Brian Bailey's 60s lwt WR, which shows that his 55s lwt WR was always soft. Roy's 55s lwt WR won't last long. Seibach will blow it out of the water, ...
