Re: NEW LTWT WORLD RECORD
I'm fairly certain that given the history of success of the Danish lightweight rowing program, they know what they're doing. There are very few lightweight events in London for him to contest. Realistically he's only got the LM1X event. In this event he has never medalled. I think 8th in 2009 was h...

Re: NEW LTWT WORLD RECORD
He's CRAZY alright. Makes no sense going all out to break a world record on an erg at this time of year when the Olympics aren't until August. Peaking too early or doing such 100% max efforts now is not a smart thing to do. Winning Olympic medals in the boat is far more important than breaking reco...

Re: I need help!
To get the most benefit from rowing, you should make sure your technique is not keeping you from a good workout. The Concept 2 website has a couple of good videos that may be helpful: http://www.concept2.com/us/training/technique.asp In particular pay attention to the "Technique" and "Intensity" vid...

Re: Ranger's training thread
You should have someone help you get your boat rigged up more appropriately for your physiology/geometry. That alone is causing some of the problems you're experiencing.

Re: Ranger's training thread
P.S. Saw one item on that list that intrigued me - noggin. I had to go to Google for that, since I didn't know what kind of unit it was. Turned out to be volume and is the same as a gill. Is that an American gill or an Imperial gill? Huh? I-- I don't know that! Auuuuuuuugh! (Apologies to Month Pyth...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Lean over, legs straight, and pick up a 250 lbs. bag of sand, arms straight. Then drop the bag of sand. Then pick it up again, legs straight, arms straight. Do that 3500 times. How do your abs feel? Are they really worn out from bending over to pick up the sand again, after you have dropped it? Are...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Ummm, you give 7 examples. But a "couple of dozen" = 12 x 2 = 24. Does the rest include the 7:02, DNF, DNS, DNS, 7:04, DNS, et al?ranger wrote:Yes, it's hard for me to make weight and row well, but I have done it a couple of dozen times now, including three WR rows and four major championship golds.ranger

Let's save Rich some time and start the excuse list for him:
The machines were inadequate...I couldn't get the DF down to 50 where I usually row.

You should ask Henrik Stephansen about that...you know, the world record holder OTErg, and the only lightweight to pull under 6:00 in competition.ranger wrote:Last year, at the ripe old age of 37, Eskild E., the greatest lightweight in the history of the sport, both OTW and OTErg, pulled 6:16 for 2K OTErg.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Anyone have any tips for dropping weight? Maintain a high quality diet...avoid highly processed foods. Maintain the right balance of protein and carbs. Push your fluid intake - when you don't get enough fluid your body's reaction is to retain water. Cut back on carbs a few days before weigh-in whil...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Rich, It would be very interesting to see a screen shot of your PM4's meter totals for the last several months. It's under More Options --> Memory/Log Card --> Month Totals You clearly know how to snap a picture of your monitor, and this has nothing to do with "racing your training". The interest (t...

Rich: Your are indeed approaching sixty. Most all of here have given up hope of a 55-59 light WR from you. I, and possibly many others, would like to hear from your lilting tongue when we be you first all out assault on the 60-64 lightweight WR. Will you go to Boston regardless of whether you get t...
