Re: Has anyone tried an activity tracker with concept 2?

I also like to track my activities, but if possible I don't want to be depending on commercial software. Especially easily sharing of data between different pieces of software can be a problem using a commercial solution. There are some very interesting initiatives though like DynRow, pyrow, RowMetr...

Re: Low back pain and concept2 rower (SkiErg better?)

Not sure if my hamstrings are weak, but they are short indeed. Will try to squat deep on daily basis - also have some stretching exercises. Already tried to reach more forward during rowing today (unfortunately battery of my camera was empty so no vid) I can push it a bit more forward and notice tha...

Re: Low back pain and concept2 rower (SkiErg better?)

Stretching the hamstrings and lower back a lot is proberly needed. Making meters will help, and get those muscle longer, so you can reach forward, without it feeling like overdoing that. Yes that might help, but my ability to move forward currently without bending or overstretching my back is prett...

Thanks.
I am sure that additional exercises for additional stability will be helpful. Done those in the past might start doing them again.

Re: Low back pain and concept2 rower (SkiErg better?)

Sorry for the bad quality, hopefully still good enough to see my technique. http://vimeo.com/118170394 Hope it is a bit better than the last video. It was indeed more of an exercise this time. It feels like I am really pivoting forward during the recovery but in the video it seems like my body is st...

Re: Low back pain and concept2 rower (SkiErg better?)

Thanks for the comments on my video, that helps a lot. Will row again tomorrow and see if I can improve my technique. This site has nice pics of the rowing technique that look helpful. Aimed for folks with back issues, so good for reference. http://www.baroonaphysio.com.au/rowing-technique-tips-pg63...

Re: DynRow: Rowing application in Python

Sounds great! I'm planning on updating it on the weekends and when there's time after work. I'll report back if there has been another update Gave it another try today, this is really a nice start and based on your videos you are making progress fast. Seems like DynRow is not responding to any inpu...

Re: Low back pain and concept2 rower (SkiErg better?)

At first I didn't want to share the video I made today (because the technique is clearly not correct yet), but changed my mind. Would be nice to see if I manage to find the main mistakes I make myself. So here it is. http://vimeo.com/117944700 Feel free to comment :) I think my drive and finish is n...

Re: DynRow: Rowing application in Python

Got it working - applied the patch to pyrow and did the 'pip thing' to get pyusb working. Haven't got time to play with it further though.
Very interested in this development. Let me know if you want new versions to be tested.

Re: Low back pain and concept2 rower (SkiErg better?)

If you can play soccer, your back is not that bad. So movement is not the problem. Maybe pulling hard is. So don,t that. Well, I can play soccer and still love playing indoor soccer but my back feels very stiff after playing. Standing for a long time is even a worse 'exercise' for my back though. S...

Thanks. Will try that the next rowing session and post a new video if I feel comfortable with it.

Re: Low back pain and concept2 rower (SkiErg better?)

regarding your original question: i use both concept2 rowers (model c/d) & skiergs (1st Gen & 2nd Gen) and with respect to lower back pain, i have had some using the rower but have not with skierg. my experience makes me suspect that the lower back soreness from the rower was from a breakdown in te...

Re: DynRow: Rowing application in Python

Awesome!
I just tried it - error receiving monitor status - USB timeout. Ubuntu 14.04
I assume that is caused by me using a PM4?

Re: Low back pain and concept2 rower (SkiErg better?)

Thx hjs! Some questions below. Point one, you don,t move you back at all That is something I do deliberately to avoid putting pressure on my back. I thought when you had back problems you should keep a straight back and don't lean back? , stbthe catch your chest should be way close to your thighs. I...

Re: Low back pain and concept2 rower (SkiErg better?)

Hi again! I have been more actively playing soccer since my last post (and other non sport related activities) - so didn't bother anymore with rowing. Now I have stopped playing outdoor soccer mainly due to arthritis in toe joint - so trying to start rowing again to keep my fitness level up. Of cour...
