Re: Training Question
So, you are doing 4-5 hour long UT2 sessions each week? What is you pace for these sessions? I still think you could consider dropping to 3 hour long UT2 sessions and then add a fixed distance UT1 row (5-6k). This coupled with your interval day would give you great variety each week and add 1-2 day...

Re: Training Question
My goal is a faster 2K What's your typical Power/Rating now in 2k and in training? Pulling a good 2k, say 7 minutes, is a question of simple arithmetic: it's 300W, and if we pull a 7 Watt stroke (Power/Rating), we'd need to rate 300/7 = 42, which is unlikely. A 10 Watt stroke would let us do it at ...

Re: Training Question
You do a lot of UT2 sessions each week. Are these long steady state rows? How many meters are you putting in for each of these and total each week? I ask because if you are doing a large volume of UT2 work and just one day of intervals, perhaps you are not allowing yourself enough rest. If 5-6 of t...

Re: Training Question
Substituting a UT1 session with UT2 would lead to fatigue at a point of having to take lots of time off to recover The rule for UT2 is that your pace should be sustainable enough to not leave you exhausted, and some people even use them as a replacement for a rest day, so are you sure you're not go...

Re: Training Question
I will add that from an older guys standpoint I'm not sure leaving out L1 intervals and weight training from ones regiment is a good idea. Its the two activities which activate fast twitch muscles fibers. The L1 intervals flood the entire system with good stuff. I am on a high all day long after com...

Re: Training Question
YES Should be L1 NOT L4 Thanks for pointing that out! was just wondering where it came from. Easy mistake to make. could have made it myself. Re it being hard, yes it is. Also the combi speedtraining/weights is not easy. And also being a 50 er, age is also not helping. Maybe a tip. You could...

Training Question
Hi All I've been rowing for 1 year. I was active before I started but never committed to improving my 2K time. I am 59 years old. My goal is a faster 2K Most my focus throughout the last year of training has been L4 intervals, squats, and deadlifts. Everything else seems to be recovery Typical week ...

Re: Return after 15 years
I would try and keep the damper down as low as possible while still maintaining a good long stroke. I find it way easier on my joints. Use speed through the stroke as opposed to strength. For example i just did a 20R30 at a 2:01 pace at a 100 DPF. My hour long rows are at 2:12 at 20 SPM with damper ...

Modified Handle
Does anyone have any experience with a modified handle? My elbow tendentious isn't going away. I've even closed the damper completely on long rows. My thinking is a handle that offers a different hand position would help.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
This is only 0.1s slower in total time compared to my best 6x500. Next up is a 2k where I'll probably aim for even splits of 1:43 or just below and then go for it in last rep. Could possibly manage 1:42.5s but am going to see how it goes. I am working towords 6x500 R3:00 @ 1:40 pace. 4 x750 R3:30 @...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
A bit of learning today. DF was 106 for the first interval and everything felt off at 19spm. Arms hurt a little, rowing at that pace felt hard, HR was high. I lowered it to 103 for the next, and the same stroke felt great! I always thought rowing at 19spm did not come naturally to me, but it turns o...

Re: 20R30 DF Question
Montecore Am interested to know what your pace is for UT2 and UT1 sessions. Also duration I am at about the same fitness level you are is why I am asking Right now UT2 is 60-90 minutes at around 2:12 to 2:15, and UT1 is around 45-50 minutes at 1:58-2:03 (except for 30r20, which I've recently added ...
