I'm a weightlifting coach and I have absolutely no use for a heart rate monitor while weightlifting. None.

I"m 6'1". I've been down below 155 and it's not a happy place athletically.

My first assumption is that since on my current exercise/diet I'm losing 1 lb/wk, that's a daily deficit of 500 calories. There is a serious logic flaw in this way of thinking. The assumption, the one that we've been force fed for many years, is as follows: 1 pound of bodyweight = 3,500 calories of...

Here's a good video on pushup standards in fitness workouts:

Max heart rate = all-nighter + dehydration + mass quantities beer + 90 degree temperature + 500 meter sprints with the damper set on "10"

Or so I'm told...

When you are talking about aerobic distances the answer is "No, no, and Heck No!"

Aerobic distances are not kind to muscle mass:

I've done workouts where the total number of pushups was something north of 150 reps, but for total in one go my best is around 40.

One of my favorite workouts is ten rounds of: 1:40 row, 10 pushups in 0:20, 2:00 rest

You could also reduce it by about 50% by having your back to the door.
Yeah, but the view sucks!

I wonder how many folks who have set up their erg in a garage are affected by this? The typical garage floor slopes about 1" down for every ten feet towards the door.

I'd been rowing facing out and then switched to aligning the rower sideways to the door and liked that better.

500 meter

After a brief warmup, rowed 500 meters in 1:34.7

That was good enough to rank me #1 in the USA for my age/weight class, #7 worldwide. Pretty happy about that.

In September I rowed 27k meters in training.

I'm 48yo, lightweight. First 500m row was about 1:55., two years ago. April of this year it was 1:33.7, looking to get under 1:32 soon. Don't remember my first 2k but I know it was WAY over 8:00, currently 7:38.4. 1k time went from somewhere over 4:00 to 3:35.8. I've put about a half-million meters ...

Forget "the burn".

How long can you hold the L-sit? How many knees-to-elbows can you do? How long can you do the hollow rock smoothly, before it starts going clunk clunk?

I am doing at least 100 crunches a day. Knees bent, not bent etc. It doesn't seem to be cutting it. No, it wouldn't. In addition to reducing bodyfat, you should be working on ab exercises that are more difficult instead of developing more endurance with the easier ab exercises. You need strong abs,...
