Re: CRASH-Bs 2024????
I was never fast, but I was always faster at competitions. The combination of serious preparation, adrenaline, and (perhaps foolish) pride always carried me to my best times. There is no way I would have been foolish enough to push myself as hard at home as I did at the Crash-Bs. I might even go so ...

Re: What to say to British Rowing?
did you see there was a roadrunner sighting on this thread? the scrawny scot endures. It's great to see Rick and Dave still around, but I was even more surprised to see you have come out of hibernation. and you, sir. i have no new tricks and am so old as to have forgotten any previous ones, whateve...

Re: How much training can you do post 50?
there are only two rules that i trust:
1) show up, i.e. train consistently
2) increase training distance (or time) and pace gradually.

Re: wolverine plan, anyone?
Easy to get through a session on the days you're feeling good, but sticking it out when every stroke feels like crap I think goes a long way for building mental toughness. yes, mental toughness. but i expect also high levels of fitness. how good would you be if you only put in the work when you fel...

Re: wolverine plan, anyone?
impressive. you'll be across the pacific in no time. Haha, thanks! Feels good to slowly build up an endurance base with lots of meters, though I must say I'm feeling it today. The first half of today's L4 session was tough. Every stroke felt like a battle to keep the prescribed pace, though started...

Re: wolverine plan, anyone?
i can't speak for mike c, but i'll try to say a few things he would say more clearly: periodization. the wp is linear, with the exception that in the "off-seasion," mike c said he would do either a level 1 or a level 2 each week, not both. mike wrote that periodization developed in large part for at...

Re: wolverine plan, anyone?
I've been doing the WP for about 7 weeks now. Been on the concept 2 pretty regularly for about the past 9 months. Fooled around with the pete plan and c2 interactive plan, but wasn't quite satisfied with either. After reading and re-reading and re-reading the WP posts in the old forum pages, I came...

Re: wolverine plan, anyone?
There's a difference between repeating a grocery list of workouts copied from another source, and following an actual training program that considers the appropriate balance of volume and intensity as well as how to regulate increases and decreases in each to peak appropriately for competition and ...

Re: A Small Bit of CRASH-Bs 2018
did c2 explain why it wasn't helping to sponsor the crash-bs? seems surprising the company would not pitch in somewhat. has anyone seen any numbers of participants at wirc and crash-b? interested in relative size of each competition. hope crash-b thrives. don't fancy traveling to toronto so i can pl...

Re: wolverine plan, anyone?
doing speed work: that's an excellent point, henry. everything i read says you want to do speed work year-round. that's especially true as you get older, apparently. doesn't have to be a lot, but consistent.
of course, when i go fast, it's slow.
