Cool Video

My first Crash-B's was also 30-39 lightweight. 14th of 17 (2002) with 7:13. You are my legacy. Carry on. Next year you will do better (as I did)

I might take the swimmers. Body types are similar and both sports require upper body aerobic fitness. They are both non-weight bearing sports that take select tall-large men with high V02maxes. Given a year to train I think the swimmers might start ahead of most other sportsmen. Large elite sprint c...

I too made that same transition. I used to clamp a sponge to the rail where my shins were vertical. Kept me in check and I had great results during that phase. Good luck in the return.

I'm a rower (4 years in college on the water and 5 years indoor rowing) and I've taken up cycling in recent years. Where, not too surprisingly as noted above, I do well (maybe even better). It's not a guarantee though. It seems to rowing prepared me to bike, but I'm not really all that sure. I've se...

40 miles per week is about 35% of an elite marathoner's mileage. I suppose you could look at 35% of an elite oarsman's training load. From what I've read this is something like 20-30 hours a week. They do spend a lot of time on technical drills and time in the gym that is not accounted for in the ru...

I'm more experienced rowing where I've done a 18:40 5k and a 7:01 2k. I've tried some attempts in recent years to run some races ( my best being a 72 minute 10 mile race. Running and rowing are going to challenge your cardiac output, but they do it so specifically at the local muscular level that th...

Be careful not to put too cheap a bike in your mag/fluid trainer. Cheap crankarms can really flex under heavier loads (like out of the saddle sprints on max resistance) and it's in all the wrong directions for your knees and ankles to safely support the load.

Here's how I understand it. The erg measures three things every stroke: The drag on the flywheel (how fast it slows down) The number of revolutions for each stroke. The time it took since the end of the last stroke. The drag is relatively constant. It can be changed by using the lever that allows mo...

Plan seems in line with what a 6:40 rower could do in training.

If this... then that.

Tom, Good question. Hard to re-run the experiment of course. I know about hard training effects on my body having been in competitive training build-ups on and off for 10 of the last 20 years and am extrapolating what I think would be happening to me were I not using Cytomax. Hardly the stuff for a ...

I'm just finishing up my first round with a product called Cytomax. Used as directed (pretty much just fancy expensive gatorade) I was fully impressed how well it did to keep my fires stoked in July where I did 3 time trials, a 10k running race, and 30 training sessions on top of that. That is a 60%...

Yesterday rode my bike 22 miles in 1:12. (18.3mph) Since I had a race today I had to make sure this ride did not take anything out of me. HR averaged just 55% of range (132). Is there such thing as UT3? Today's time trial went well. 13 miles in 33:29 (23.3mph). It was good for 7th of 20 in my age gr...

I ran today in the muggiest buggiest muddiest conditions in the woods. I really liked the spider webs mixing in with the sweat and then exiting the woods into the the searing heat. All runs are better than this running so there is something to look forward to. Nice effort John. Hope it does lead to ...
