Re: 4x10 pacing help
4x10 rate capped at 23 would be around 4-6s slower per 500 than your best open rate 6k.

Re: 2025 World Rowing Indoor Championships
There are no age categories in the semi final and final round. Everyone is in the same pool with the open athletes.

Re: Quantifying the "degree of difficulty" of a given erg session
Has anyone out there (say, an exercise physiologist) ever developed a somewhat scientific way of defining how difficult a given workout was, preferably tailored to a specific person (so it would be based on your individual capability instead of an arbitrary scale). I suppose you could try something...

Yes you are right. Need to sit on your seatbones, not the back of the glutes.

Re: WRICH
It was probably less a voluntary decision on World Rowing part than just the fact that their bidding process for WRIC 2025 didn't yield a host and venue. A successful bid would, if I'm not mistaken, mean that the host would have to pay USD 40,000 to World Rowing (USD 5,000 bid fee, USD 10,000 hostin...

Re: Coming back to rowing after a hiatus, but with much better fitness
Targeting Luke's WR is a lofty goal. But your 5k after no rowing at all is amazing. There will be gains to be made just from erging regularly. A 5k of 1:35 pace is a similar level as the HM WR, just for your reference. Get your 5k to that level and you can attempt to break the HM WR (and 10k, and 3...

Re: Fans
Max cooling effect on the back, but as my (lower) back is also the most prone to injury and stiffness I don't want that, so I direct it diagonally from the front, avoiding the flywheel.

Re: Straight arms at the catch
I know my slight arm bend at the catch comes from my lats, not from my biceps. My biceps never hurts or tires when rowing.

Re: Quad pain at the end of a 2k
In my experience it was always the whole-body discomfort, as you describe, rather than local muscular pain. My reasoning is, that due to the large amount of active muscle mass in rowing, the cardiovascular system is the bottleneck, not local muscular endurance like in cycling. Therefore the blood ac...

Re: Legs applying equal pressure during drive mode
- Not lifting heels is bro science, coming from the Crossfit scene. It's amazing that cyclists are able to put any power at all into the bike... ; ) It is mind boggling. They are not even able to plant their heels! Track sprinter cyclists should really educate themselves, change their shoes and pus...

Re: Legs applying equal pressure during drive mode
- Rowers normally push through the balls of the foot, even when the heels are planted. The sitting position and biomechanics make this the most effective way to generate horizontal force. Studies with pressure measuring insoles clearly show this. - Not lifting heels is bro science, coming from the C...

Re: UT2 SS pace question & RPE
Travis Gardner proposes a UT2 which is not RPE 3/10.
More like 6/10.
A 8min 2k for a fit and muscular 24 year old is slow and indicates a technique deficiency. Probably underusing the big prime movers (legs, glutes) and overusing upper body.

Re: Easy Interval Method (Verheul / Lok) into Rowing/Erging?
P.S.: Look up Norwegian Threshold training for an approach which is more suited to rowing. Marius Bakken has posted on his website on it and also published a paper on it.
