Re: Rowing Knee Position?
Proper rowing position requires your knees to separate slightly in order for you to reach a most fully compressed position. However it is important that you don't spread them too far and waste energy and that you keep your back straight by supporting yourself with you abdominals. If your breathing i...
Re: Numb Foot
I had a friend at my club whose feet used to go numb on long peices. My coach suggested that she make sure she was pushing her heals down on the drive, and not pushing off with her toes. This helped and she had much less numbness. She also rowed sometimes without shoes, just socks, which helped as w...

Re: Cold Hands
I have circulation problems as well, I've never liked pogies as well as the fact that my coaches never allowed them during peices. I used to put toewarmsers with adhesive into the bottoms of my shoes and keep handwarmers in my pockets so i could at least warm them during the rest.

Re: Dealing with sun glare in hot conditions
I agree with the above suggestions as I use a mirror as well when I row my single. I usually just try to pick which direction I will be rowing so the sun is at my back and which side of the course will have more shade. Also a good pair of sunglasses might allow you to see better in variable conditio...

Re: blisters on hands
An easy solution is just to apply deoderant to your hands before erging or on the water, as long as you don't have too many open blisters already. I prefer mens speed stick deoderant, which just helps to absorb some of the moisture and lubricate the handle, while making it less slippery.

Re: Sweaty handles -- solutions?
Blisters usually form from the excess moisture and the handles rubbing against your hands. To prevent this I found that using deoderant (I like mens speed stick) and rubbing it on your hands absorbs the moisture and lubricates to stop blisters from forming. If you don't use too much, you will eventu...
Re: Barefoot
I don't row barefoot that often, but when i've had to the most comfortable thing for me to do was just to wear a pair of thick socks, anything else I feel gets in the way. Since I have slightly smaller feet as well i like to make sure the foot rests are moved all the way up to the top (hole number 6...

I personally wouldn't row all out on the first 500m, rather a more equal pace throughout, however pacing aside, there was an article in rowing news that adressed weight lifting in rowers. It reccomended higher weights with fewer reps for more advanced rowers, while suggesting novices work more on en...

My coach sometiems has us practice rowing with a cube under the back of our erg, usually about a foot tall. This may increase the pressure slightly, but the main focus was to be able to feel how much you were rushing at the catch. You really had to focus on having a slow slide and not letting yourse...
