Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
4/12/23(Mon) Training partner still ill so in the garage for a 45mins. 45mins-11883m-1.53.6-R18-239w last 11.15mins-1.51 pace(255w) Ranger-Taking into account this I would say is UT1(ish), all things being equal what would this equate(approx) to 2km? Top end UT1, ex. 60min, is usually about 2K + 10...

Re: Older ergers
Sure. Have you done the same-- experimented with technique and found the best technique that works for you? I doubt it. And so do YOU have WR rows? Like everyone else who rows, I expect you are not an elite rower at all and you've done nothing about your technique to remedy that Your attitude that ...

Re: Older ergers
Sakly: In fact, I see that you are 5'8", 170 lbs. So, given how everyone is taught to row these days, you could NEVER be a recruited elite collegiate rower. At places like the University of Washington now, no one much under 6'3" is allowed to row on the team, and many of the rowers on the team are 6...

Re: Older ergers
Have to agree, that the 100m is so specific, that this argument doesn't count. Fair point. But I also have the opinion that being a WR holder in a standard distance, which is know to be the best coverage of strength and endurance part of the sport, does not automatically mean the individual techniq...

Re: Older ergers
Anyone who has three WR 2K rows knows how to race, has nothing to prove, and is reliable. Brian Shaw broke the 100m world record. Wouldn't take any rowing advice from him though. Having a WR makes you fast, not credible. 100m is not a rowing event. The ONLY rowing event, really, is 2K. My three WR ...

Re: Aging & Drag Factor
The downside of the historical trend, 100 years old now, of giving up rowing with a big back swing powered by the core, and neglecting the body weight, too, is that elite rowing has become a sport exclusively for the young, tall, strong, and male, who have long strong legs and arms, preferably 6'5",...

Re: Aging & Drag Factor
I don't know for sure, but historically, in 1940 or so, I think everyone gave up rowing at high drag off their heels with a big back swing powered by their core, as everyone had been doing for thirty years after CONIBEAR invented his stroke in 1910 or so, because contemporary college kids, and peopl...

Re: Aging & Drag Factor
Rich isn't giving advice to anybody. He's doing what he's always done, putting his thoughts out there and people just bite. Just take it with a pinch of salt and simply ignore him. Isn't he? He just told me 3 or 4 times that my rowing technique is unsafe, implying that I should change my technique ...

Re: Running and rowing equivalents
. Hi Rich, it's been a long time! How are you keeping? Cheers, Nick. Everything MY way in great. I have been retired for 10 years. I now have two grandkids. My health is fine. My fitness is high. And it seems that I have finally found the rowing stroke I have been looking for (what is called a CONI...

Re: Older ergers
I will be DELIGHTED to report on the races that I do with my CONIBEAR stroke this winter.
The results, I think, will be ASTONISHING.

Thank you all for your feedback on this thread and others. I don't know why ranger has been posting - the forum software thinks he is still banned, but clearly he's back. The original founder of this forum was not a fan of censorship, so perhaps his spirit has lifted the ban (he's not dead, just no...

Re: Aging & Drag Factor
Depends on how you row. If you take the catch on your heels with your hams and glutes, hanging your body weight on the handle, you can row at max drag, both safely and with great benefit (in terms of pace). Where do you keep your feet on the stretchers, high at the top? Cheers, John. Yes, indeed. I...
