Main menu --> More options --> Utilities --> LCD Contrast. Once you're on the LCD contrast menu press [change units] three times, then press [change display] three times. Then a hidden menu appears. Ensure that you've set the PM3 to model B/C on that hidden menu. If it still doesn't work you'll nee...

Re: Ranger's training thread
At the HOCR last year, 40 of the 50 Veteran boats didn't pull 2:10 pace. I can row 2:10 pace at 22 spm with a UT2 HR. Ultimately, I think I'll rate 30 spm at HOCR (and other head races). ranger I'm curious as to why you keep quoting the pace per 500 in the HOCR or any race for that matter? It's not...

Re: Ranger's training thread
[ During the recovery, there is no hard pressure on the footplate. The boat is floating under you. You are pulling back with your heels. If you are pulling back with your heels, you are not pressuring forward with the balls of your feet. Have you seen Xeno's video that explains this? As you prepare...

Re: Ranger's training thread
You must be turning every 5 minutes. Yep. Exactly. If I go around the circumference of the lake, as I am doing now, it's great steering practice for the head race season. I have some big turns--frequently. I am learning how to make these frequent turns--quickly, efficiently, and accurately. Of cour...

Re: Ranger's training thread
10K over at Europe Lake, just after dawn, after 15K OTW, just before dawn. Perfect conditions again OTW--calm, clear, 65 degrees F. I was the only one on the lake. I continue to improve. Did several sequences of 1:56 @ 26 spm this morning. That's _really_ moving the boat well. 8.5 SPI Better catche...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Ranger- When do you sleep? Posts at 1:30am until 4:45am? Then more starting at 7am. I assume you were doing your 20k on the erg between 5 and 7am. ![Cool B)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

Re: Ranger's training thread
we're missing Mike vB, Ed Ryan, Tunnicliffe, much of Riverside, most of Philly, Narragansett, Wilmington, and most of Boston :D :D But everyone in the midwest should rack up their boat and drive 1000 miles to Philly in a moment, for the sheer joy and privilege of it, just to rub noses with the peop...

Re: Ranger's training thread
Ranger- You're almost out of time for HOCR registration.
17:50 that would be a very good result.

Re: Ranger's training thread
That 1:57 @ 27 spm would be a nice little number to do at the Head of the Charles! You're not doing the HOCR. You've still not entered. Get your entry in or in 99 days you'll be sitting on the bank watching. Still time to enter. Singles Applications are due August 1. http://www.hocr.org/competitors...

Ranger- What kind of on the water training are you doing?
Is that lake long enough to row for 30 minutes without turning?

Re: Ranger's training thread
Another beautiful day up here in Door County, WI. Stiff wind from the south. 12K OTErg before breakfast. I'll get out OTW later in the day. I am getting beautifully stable, efficient distance rowing now at 12 SPI, 24-30 spm, OTErg. So, give or take a bit, I am rowing right at my targets: 24 spm FM ...

Re: Ranger's training thread
First legs, then body swing, then arms is something they tell absolute beginners. After all these years OTW you should be beyond that. "Separated levers" is complete nonsense. Perhaps, if you are _very_ slow and have _very_ long legs. But if you have short legs and are fast, it is _much_ better to ...

Re: Ranger's training thread
If two rowers are putzing along at the same rate, say, 24 spm, and exerting about the same effort, say 75% HRR, but one rower is pulling 12 MPS and the other 10 MPS, every four strokes the rower who is pulling 12 MPS will gain a boat length on the rower who is pulling 10 MPS. If the race is 4000 st...

Re: Fair Comparison?
Littlezuck- You should be able to do an equal time per week on the erg as you did running. Or more. B) The power curves between the two sports are not comparable, even though the paces seem close. WR times for running are much faster. However, it is easier to get a decent erg time relative to runnin...

Re: Ranger's training thread
You should give it a try sometime Yea, I'd like to get back out OTW. But I'm a little afraid of the cold water. I hear that the water in the Huron River is still below 40 dgrees F. The water is also _very_ high and moving fast. A guy in a kayak just got pinned against the bridge at Dexter, a few mi...
