Ok, it now does shutdown after a while. I turned the wireless off and that may have fixed it. Thanks.

I too recently purchased my rower and also after a week or 2 needed to replace the batteries. I was wondering if the PM5 display is supposed to time out when not in use. My display always seems to be on, even though it is not backlit.
