Thanks for the help, all.

Rowed my race this weekend. I consider it a qualified success. Technically it was a new PB for me, but since my old PB was my first time ever doing a timed 2k race, my improvement wasn't all that great. I went from a 7:05.5 to a 7:04.1 So less than a 1.5 second improvement. The funny thing is that I...

Last line from a 5-day/week Interactive (C2UK site) says: 25*UT2 - 3'TR - 3*1.5'AN - 3*45sAN - Race. For more details, pluck a plan from http://www.concept2.co.uk/training/interactive.php Thanks for the link. I've used this, and today finished my last workout before the race. It's going to be all I...

How many workouts the week before a race?

Sorry, I did try to search this topic before posting but didn't find anything.

If I'm competing on Feb 1 2009, how many workouts, and what kind of workouts, should I do next week?

Thanks, Nosmo

Thanks for the advice. You're right, I think I need some longer intervals with more total time. I'll try the 4x1000m workout. That sounds tough, but will be a good gauge of whether or not I can hold my notional race pace for a full 2k. And I agree on pacing. Better to go out steady and try to pop it...

Workouts

Mostly I've been training for general fitness, but I was considering entering the CIRC so I decided to do some interval work and get my speed up. Most prior workouts were of the Pyramid or Stair variety, going for 34-44min, 2-3 times a week. For the past weekand a half it's been almost every day, an...

Thanks for the advice.

20min of warm-up? I guess I'm not doing this "properly", because my workout is often over by the 20min mark!

Oh well, the world needs novices too. ;)

Interval Training - how much is too much?

When preparing for a competition, how much hard interval training should you do in a week? Is every day too often? Every other day? I'm not talking about very long workouts, only 20-30min total time. But should I mix up slow or steady work with the interval training or just sticke with the hard, fas...

HR Monitor

Question for you: where do you put your watch? I've seen some people try to stick it onto the monitor so they can watch it as they row, but this doesn't work very well. As you pull to the end of the stroke, you're getting to the end of the range of some chestband transmitters. So the watch may lose ...

Old Skul

I tend to like a mixture of punk, techno and some old school heavy metal to row by. I need the energy boost they provide to keep going. Examples include: Skid Row (Slave to the Grind), Megadeath (Youthanasia), Prodigy (Fat of the Land), DFA 1979 (You're a Woman, I'm a Machine), The Hives (Tyranosaur...

Cardiac drift

Sorry to chime in here unasked, but I did read something online about "cardiac drift". This is a natural tendency for HR to increase over time during exercise due in part to perspiration. I hope this hasn't already been covered. If it has, my apologies again. An interesting article on it can be foun...

"I felt that I paced myself very well in the race, but is there any reason that my heart rate would be so high halfway through and that it did not reach it's full potential towards the end? What can I do to improve this and get my splits lower?" Remember that Heart Rate guidelines are just that, gui...

Find interesting workouts

I first erged as part of a fitness test. Went into it completely untrained and got through it on guts and determination. Believe me, it hurt. So after that I figured that if I ever had to do that again, I should train for it. At first all I would do is go as hard as I could for 10min. That was it. 1...

Max HR

I train with heart rate monitor all the time. This has allowed me to compare my HR during various kinds of workouts; running, erging, paddling, circuit training, etc. I first had my max HR officially tested back around 2001. I topped 193 then. A couple years later I did a flat-out effort druing an E...
