Re: Beat up runner asks: Can rowing replace running?
I'm 39 and have a big background of cycling and running. Running has always been my favorite. I live in a city that I consider not very safe for cycling so I've ran for many years. Typically, I have ran 30'ish miles a week throughout my 30's. I started having nagging pain and injuries and decided I ...

Re: Drag Factor SS vs Hard Session
Thanks for the responses. Somebody asked how tall I am. I'm 6'2" and weigh 205. Seems like everything points to me benefiting from a slower stroke. Someone mentioned cycling. I have a background in cycling and I've always naturally had a very fast cadence. It sounds like I just need to really concen...

Drag Factor SS vs Hard Session
Hello all, I've been at this rowing thing for about a year. Still having a real tough time getting my stroke rate down. Not exactly sure why. Do you experienced people use basically the same drag factor for both your steady state pieces as well as your hard workouts? Also, let's just say you're doin...

Re: Rowing 2K sub 7 min or running 10K flat sub 40 min?
Bend, it sounds like we have similar backgrounds. I too ran in college and ran similar times. I am very much encouraged by your 2K row time though which is one I have not been able to come close to. I have been working at it for a while and have not been able to get below 6:58 (early 2015). Some of ...

Difference between PM3 and PM5
Hey everyone, A Concept 2 popped up on my local Craigslist for a pretty good price. It has next to no meters rowed on it. Only thing is that it has a PM3. Am I going to wish I had a PM4 or PM5? Is there anything you would be missing on the PM3 that would be a deal breaker for you? It's not out of th...

Re: Rowing 2K sub 7 min or running 10K flat sub 40 min?
I think it's possible for you to be fit for both at one time. You'll be missing that final 3 to 5% you need to really achieve your potential by not training many months for one sport. I was a fairly good college runner. I ran 31:32 for 10k on the track. That was obviously done by only running as tra...

Re: Recommended training plan to improve 10k PB?
How many K's of steady state were you doing a week? For a 10k program what would you think the minimum amount of weekly k's would suffice for a good 10k? Obviously, everyone is different.

Re: UT2/Polarization (trying to move this from PB thread)
I feel like you've got to realize everyone is different and responds to training differently. I raced bicycles professionally back about 15 years ago. For years I was never finding my potential because I trained how I thought I should train. Big hours (20+ a week) and then add some more hours on top...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
First race today. Erg Rodeo in Austin, Texas. It was my grey beard and a bunch of college kids in my heat. Knew I would land somewhere between 6:30 and 6:40. Thought I had my head on straight enough to go out in 1:40. You guessed it...I went out in 1:37. Held on for dear life. That last 500, seconds...

Nice work! That had to have felt good. What were your 500 splits?
Congrats.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Thanks Edward. I definitely need to figure out pacing. If I were to race tomorrow I think I'd try to hit the 1k mark at 1:40 to 1:41'ish and then let it rip (or die a long slow death!). Is 1200 enough to get a good feel for how that pace will go for 2k? Is 1400 or 1500 too taxing? Thanks for the adv...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Hey guys, Posted here a few times. Enjoy following what y'all are doing. Give me some feedback on this workout if you will. I'm doing my first race (2k) on the 13th of February. I'm a few months into this erging thing. Fitness is definitely getting better and better weekly. I am leaving on Tuesday f...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
I'm going to start joining in on this a bit. I posted a few weeks ago as being a "new guy". Got on a erg for the first time probably 7 or 8 weeks ago. Have been doing level 4 of the interactive program the last I think 4 weeks'ish. Started with 4 days a week and now up to the 6. It's proving to be a...

Re: New guy here....
One quick question. Do you start intervals from a standstill or do you have the fan revved up when it starts?
I've been going from a standstill but wasn't sure what the protocol is.

Re: New guy here....
Okay....THAT HURT! Today was the day that made the most sense to swap workouts and do the 4 X 1000 with 5min rest thing. It actually went really well. I thought I may have overcooked it on the second one but held it together through the end. Definitely felt like I had a good day for the fitness leve...
