breathing...

Even in weightlifting, which is an excellent example to compare in this case, you must exhale when you compress the legs into the trunk of the body. Faster paces necessitate the need for doubling up breathing, but the pressure must be vented as the legs compress into the trunk of the body. Xeno does...

I live on Long Island also. I would worry about the electronics box, condensation forming inside it would surely ruin it. Call the manufacturer about it. With all the ice, rain, dampness, salty air and then humidity, I wouldn't expect the machine to fair well. The rower breaks right apart in two pie...

Had laminectomy on 2. Sitting is the worst position, depending on which discs. Strong stomach muscles are very important. The pain/dumbness comes from inflammation. Laying down and even inversion will help relieve pressure. Many times, waiting for swelling to reduce takes much longer than we want. Y...

Muscles plateau at times. They sometimes do not like too much redundancy. Sometimes you do really well (in anything you are doing) with seemingly constant and linear gains but reach a point of 'blah' where the muscles plateau and continued redundancy offers little gain or even trouble maintaining. S...

Why does it take two days to recover from a 2k at 170 somewhat bpm? I think your stroke rate may be too high and not kicking hard enough. That was my problem in the beginning. Stroke rate mid 30's or higher? It is actually easier to kick hard and slow the stroke rate down. Your times will improve. N...

Stress

To minimize stress, lower the footboards and never go into the catch putting the shins past vertical and only very slightly lift your heels.

You can get a seat stop from Piantedosi to keep you from going to far forward until it becomes natural.

fishbust, Good luck on the improvements and let us know how it works out. Bob S. Ok Bob.....2nd day of "doing it right"...kicking harder and slowing the stroke rate down from 35 to 29/30 made a big difference, knocked a half minute off already, clocked a 8:31.5 2k today, yesterday was around 8:36. ...

Re: Thanks guys...

I usually do the 5k's for endurance because I take the boat out for hours at a time in the summer ... Does that boat have a fixed seat? I had a friend who'd rowed fixed seats for many years and he was arms/upper body only - he had lots of power for a 70+ and pulled a quick 2500m, but could have gon...

Thanks guys...

I am a solo type when it comes to working out, so comparing to others usually is a problem. I spoke to my son today about his erging, who races and runs in the 6's for his 2 k's and we found my problem with the erg, my overall form is very good...my stroke rate is just too darn fast and I am not kic...

47 year old here, always into a lot of things, decent shape lifelong but steady cardio work is pretty new to new. Started rowing last summer and started erging this past fall, seriously the past month or so, 6 days a week. I rowed an 8:54 2k today, lately a 23 and change 5k. These are my best times ...

I use the Polar belt on my PM3. It is very useful in real time as you are rowing, to control your target range.

I do agree Bob, I didn't know where to put the question. I think row2k should have a forum. I need to buy a new (or used) boat for the upcoming rowing season. Don't want to just draw straws on which one to buy. Looking down the road when I want to move up into a different boat, don't want to find my...

Ok, I recieved my seat adapter last Friday, been using it daily ever since, promised I would post my experience............... I use it exclusively in the unstable 'mode'. It is very easy to get used to. I never once felt I needed to be strapped in. I thought for sure I would but it never happened. ...
