Excellent, I didn't even realize :) Even this topic is now a few years old.

Interesting read here:

The wording on concept2 page seems to have changed a lot..

Re: vo2 max calculator illogical results

Thanks for the links, interesting readings! As you pointed out, the first paper is great for understanding the specific physiological demands of the 2k and shows that it is not easy to suceed and elite rowers are a special breed. Hagerman certainly went to great length studying the rowing physiology...

Re: vo2 max calculator illogical results

This last clause is a big part of the problem with 'not well trained' individuals. If you haven't done a flat-out 2k test before, the chances are pretty good that you're not going to go hard enough long enough to achieve maximal oxygen consumption at current fitness level. We agree there! This is o...

Re: vo2 max calculator illogical results

When we look at the formula we see that it can be broken into 6 differents parts : trained men > 75 kg trained men <= 75 kg untrained men trained women > 61,36 kg trained women <= 61,36 kg untrained women We can see from the formulas that the relationship between 2K time and VO2 max is linear. for e...

Re: vo2 max calculator illogical results

Take 2 individuals with the same VO2 Max one "highly trained on the erg" and the other "untrained". Which one would you bet on? One would think that the trained athlete is able to fully tap in his potential and have a much better time that the untrained athlete. Isn't it why training is for? The hy...

Re: vo2 max calculator illogical results

I still think there is something flawed with this formula and reasoning. If you think about what highly trained/not highly trained implies in terms of performance ceilings, Hagerman's formula makes sense. Take a hypothetical 100 kg male with a 6:30 2k. Plug in "highly trained" and the C2 calculator ...

Re: vo2 max calculator illogical results

thanks jdlbb for pointing out that they pusblished the formulas they used. Obviously those are wrong... We can find them in "Heart Rate Training" as well: https://books.google.fr/books?id=MW7lDnXG3_oC&pg=PA179&lpg=PA179&dq=Y+%3D+10.7+-+%280.9+*+Time%29&source=bl&ots=rcOAOSFGuR&sig=THYX5ZFNIxQm921kBG...

Re: vo2 max calculator illogical results

I sent an email to concept2 regarding that bug, I'll keep you posted if I get some feedback. Just like the Cooper test for runners, these calculator provide just estimates. If you row a 6:00 2k we know that you must have some pretty good V02 Max ;) ;) But if you raw a 12:00 2k it is much harder to r...

Re: vo2 max calculator illogical results

I'm sorry there is a major confusion here. VO2 Max is NOT a measure of energy being expended. VO2 Max is a measure of one's aerobic capacity. Of course a highly trained athlete can do more on a lesser percentage of his/her VO2 Max. I'm sure most Olympic rowers are in the 70s for VO2 Max. To do a 7:...

Re: vo2 max calculator illogical results

I've exactly the same remark... sorry to dig out this sujet :) I just started rowing (300k so far), i was curious about the tool and put in my data. In turns out to be fairly accurate if I logged as a "untrained athlete" my VO2 Max would soar from 58 to 68 if I were a "trained athlete". While my res...

Re: ErgData creates duplicate entries in log after site upda

thank you Citroen, email sent. I noticed another (possibly related) issue : [*]It seems that my "metric" preferences were "lost" in the update. Somehow my weight didn't change but was marked as "lbs" instead of pounds. When I corrected my preferences my weight got concerted from it wrong value in lb...

ErgData creates duplicate entries in log after site update

Hello, Using Ergdata I synced my workout and was surprised to see that all my workouts were re-sent, I now have duplicate entries for all my work out prior to the update. Is this going to be cleaned up automagically or do I need to go & remove them manually :( :( ? I know updating such a website mus...
