As strange as it may seem, it's very possible that you aren't eating enough . You only want to take in about 500 calories less than what you need. If you eat too little, your body will go into "starvation mode" and your metabolism will slow down. Do you lift weights? This also effects your metabolis...

Thanks for the great tip, Xeno. I try to keep myself tall, but if my concentration slips, I slouch a bit. I've never had trouble with my lower back, but my middle back gets tired. I'll try your advice.

It depends on what your goals are. If your main goal is to improve your rowing, then I would continue what you are now doing. If your goal is weight loss and general fitness, then I would switch and do the weight training first. There is a scientific reason for this, but I don't recall exactly what ...

What does your display show when you're doing a time trial?

What do you like to look at on your monitor? Average pace? Projected time? Anything else?

PM3 and Intervals

When during intervals, is there any way to set or modify a PM3 so that the clock starts when you start rowing, as opposed to when the rest period is over?

I have a PM2 right now and like the way that works.

Thanks

Howdy - Have you asked your coach for an off season workout? He would probably be the best person to help you as he knows your strengths and weaknesses. I'm sure he would be thrilled to help (plus it looks good to show that you have the desire to improve). The UK site has an excellent section on tra...

Wow, I didn't think I was making that much of a controversial statement! Most of my background is in competitve running rather than erging, but I'm sure they aren't too different as far as what we are talking about. It's typical for a championship runner to take a "victory lap" after winning a race,...

Have you ever seen Olympic rowers at the end of one of their races? This is a sport that will leave you totally wiped out at the end. I wouldn't waste money on any devices. Hard, consistant work will get you to your goal. Running doesn't seem to correlate too well to erging performance. Weight train...

Hi Jane - I get soreness in my middle back after almost every hard row, though I haven't pulled anything yet. My soreness is a little lower than yours, more in the middle than between the shoulder blades. My background is in running, so I never needed to use my back muscles for that. I keep hoping t...

Re: C2's 24 Rowing Workouts

Hi! I am a beginner. Worked out at the gym on a model C and loved it. Started using C2's 24 Workouts from their web site. Now bought my own model D and am working out in the morning before work. Question for the group: can I use C2's 24 Rowing Workouts http://www.concept2.com/05/rower/service/pdf/x...

Hi Shepard- I think that adding some weight training is a great idea if your goal is to loose weight. Most of the articles I have read about loosing body fat is that weight training is more important than cardio. The reason is that as you build muscle, your base metabolism raises. In other words, yo...

Also check out the nonathlon http://www.nonathlon.com/ . Don't worry about the other overachievers, just look at the improvements in your own scoreas you get fitter and faster. There are some really fast people on this board. It's easy to be intimidated. But I've found that everyone here is extreme...

Are you getting enough rest between workouts? It sounds to me like you aren't recovering. When I coached (track & cross country) we would not only employ a hard day-easy day routine, but we'd also put in one easy week per month. Why don't you try taking a few days off, eat well, get enough sleep, an...

I have a post workout shake of whey protein in 8 oz of water, followed by 8 oz of grape juice. This is a good combination for post workout drinks as it's the right amounts of protein and quick release carbs to feed my depleted muscles. You don't want your rowing workouts to canabolize your muscles, ...
