Thank you all for your input.

I don't get particularly tired or puffed.

I think it is all in my head. I went for a heart stress test 2 years ago and had no issues but I am a worrier.

I'll have to just calm down and build up my fitness slowly.

I am 62 years old and I am to concerned about pushing my heart rate too high. I am 104kg, so quite a bit overweight but i exercise for about an hour 5 times a week. I am sure you can set a time based race, but you all start at the same time and finish miles apart. I would prefer starting apart and finishing together.

Thanks for all the above input. I guess my problem comes from a combination of factures. I will be going to Italy for 3 weeks holiday in 2 weeks time, so that will provide a good break from training.
