Re: new to rowing and some question
@ Carl Watts - just thought you would be the tech expert since your sig line says you're a Concept2 Monitor Tech.

Re: new to rowing and some question
1) what is "short"? 30 mins daily can make a great workout. Alternate between a slower steady state for the full 30mins on one day and tough interval training the next day. The Concept2 Workouts of the Day can help keep things different and interesting too. They have options for 30-40 mins a session...

Re: New Rower, runner...
Try to get a video of your stroke to post here for critique. 2:50 to 3:00 for a 500m split is very slow. If you get winded doing that chances are you are putting a lot of effort in but not being very efficient with the stroke itself. Fixing your form you will prolly notice HUGE gains very quickly. I...

Perhaps nothing really here, but something to consider:

Re: Diet
I've never talked to a registered dietician that recommended cutting out any kind of food entirely... with the exception of heavily processes/fast foods. But breads, pastas, etc are all "on the menu". The key, is limiting how much of any kind of thing you eat. If you love something, make sure you in...

Re: Can I improve?
Reckon it all depends on WHY you want to row... Do you enjoy it for its own sake? Would seem a shame to give up on something you enjoy doing just because someone else may or may not be pleased by your performance. Even at your size, I'd expect that you could improve quite a bit on a 9:09 2k. Especia...

Re: New User, new machine
The performance monitor takes drag factor into account when it calculates watts/distance rowed/cals burned. This is what allows folks to compete across a varying range of preferred settings. Assuming you were equally rested across all of your time/distance trials then, I would say that the reason yo...

Re: New Concept2 Owner (semi-new to rowing)
On your distance rows (anything 30mins or longer), I highly recommend busting out a heart rate monitor and trying to maintain constant level of effort so that HR stays 70 - 75% of your maximum heart rate. When HR is in zone, focus on maintaining same stroke rate and level of effort on each stroke. O...

Calorie's Burned Report
So.. I know everyone around here really discounts the "Calories/HR" rating as reported per stroke on the PM4/PM5. I've tended to still stay on that screen however because whether accurate or not, it provides some kind of "meaningful" comparison for me concerning level of effort from one stroke to th...

Woot!
Finally broke that 15k barrier for my 60' workout. 15,140m down. That catches me up to the pace I was at for 30' rows before I started doing 60' rows every weekday. Its a good day.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
17k rows 5 days in a row. For some reason it hurts worse than just doing a 1hr workout even though the extra distance only adds about 10mins to the session time. Anywho... I'm glad for the weekend and the chance to let the body do some recovery. Next week I'm back to just 1hr rows.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Haven't been able to hit up a C2 since Holiday Challenge started. Have to make up meters for the missing days.
17k meters today at a reasonable pace for me ~2:03
Will prolly do the same the rest of this work week then resume my normal workday 60' grinds next week.

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
1st attempt at a half-marathon ever today. Prolly should have waited till Friday so all those meters go towards the Holiday Challenge.... but after the good eats tomorrow just didn't think I'd be up to it. Anywho.... took me 1:28:20.5 Not outstanding, but I'm pleased. Tells me I'm at least on the ri...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Ugh.... another Monday and another attempt at a PB @ 60'
Previous PB: 14,751m
Today's Row 14,976m
I should be excited at the new PB but am totally bummed at just not having the steam to finally break that 15k barrier....

Re: Avoiding seat discomfort during an HM
To assist with posterior discomfort I tend to pause every 10 mins or so... fully extended legs and just reach and grab the toes to stretch the hams and glutes for about 10secs. Not only does this help with the muscles seizing... but it seems to minutely adjust the pressure points tween my rear and t...
