Re: Rowing and Cycling Watts

Thanks for bumping and keeping this thread going, I had started a similar thread in the training (wrong) section -- should have checked here first. My initial question is definitely answered, the bike erg is way more efficient. It's also easier for me to get my heart rate up on the bike erg without ...

I do a lot of yardwork as well, I can dig like a maniac :D

Re: Viral Risks with Exercise

In so much as exercise keeps a person within a regular routine, it can only be a good thing. In my region, pretty much everything is shut down. There are a lot of stressed out and soon to be broke people around. Doing an erg session, regardless of how hard, is probably better than the beer for break...

Re: Year 35

I'm guessing you will hear a lot of different opinions about the best exercise routine for weight loss. As I've mentioned, I think most of them are nonsense, it starts with diet. There is an interaction between the type of exercise one does and how hungry it makes you though. If you have an iron wil...

Re: Childish behavier.

How disappointing, I was truly hoping Captain Watts was on the juice!

His cape flying, paper and leaves blowing in every direction, tree huggers lined up to charge their ebikes!!!

So sad.....

Re: Foot fatigue / inflammation

Have you recovered yet? Just to clarify, after being off the rower for a long time you bought one and then did a set of max effort intervals during your first session? Now you have stiffness and inflammation in your ankles and are wondering why? If this is true, the answer might be obvious -- right?...

Re: Best single exercise machine for a home

I started with a rower and used it steady for almost 2 years, made a lot of gains! I recently got a smart trainer for my road bike though... I find the interactive apps and the workouts super engaging and a great resource for tracking progress. If space is an issue, the smart trainer can be connecte...

Re: Watts on Erg Vs. Bike

I used to have a 'fluid' wheel on trainer for my bike. I equate that experience to cycling on the c2. pedal harder, stroke faster, resistance goes up in what seems like an exponential manner. It was great when I first got it, but trainers evolved for a reason. The experience I have on the new traine...

Re: Watts on Erg Vs. Bike

Really hope that 2020 is the year that Zwift get a decent Erg power conversion to actual road speed on a bike. How about something far more radical!? After riding on my new Tacx Neo 2t smart trainer it is abundantly clear that resistance technology has advanced rapidly. I'm guessing it's possible t...

Re: Claw grip vs. fist grip on handle

Great vid! I also like some of the comments about feeling the relaxed pull in your shoulders at the start of the drive. When I'm relaxed and in good form, I have this experience. As a fella with shortish gator arms for my height, I have joked that the relaxed claw grip gets me an extra inch at eithe...

Re: Watts on Erg Vs. Bike

I'm still curious about the max low pull watts (most powerful single stroke after ramping it up) on the rower compared to the highest short term spike in watts I can get on the smarttrainer. I expect the bike will still be higher, especially with the very high cadence that can be generated. My smart...

Nice, thanks for the info!

Open access is imminent, unfortunately it probably won't help with older publications like this one. I do have a uni account though and will pull it there.

Re: New Rower 10k time and weight

early initial progress on the erg can be quite rewarding -- I expect your time for 10k is going to come down quickly. Each time you row the distance you learn something new, the learning on it's own will improve your times in addition to the fitness gains you'll make.

Re: Watts on Erg Vs. Bike

I should add.... My initial question was about ability to maintain watts on the a trainer/bike vs. erg. I think the distance covered on the c2 bike was conflated with watts. to put it another way: has anyone done a max low pull measured in watts and compared this to the max watts output they can gen...
