you should measure your maximum heart rate. Then you can see what percentage (absolute heart rate means nothing!) of it you are doing.

If anyone is interested here are the general heart rate zones used by top-athletes in Norway: (percentages of max heart rate) i1: 60-72% i2: 72-82% i3: 82-87% i4: 87-92% i5: 92-97% Most training is done in the i1 and i2 workouts. A training consisting of for instance 3x8min intervals is usually done...

Height is a definite advantage. The taller the better, but on the extreme side you always have a few exceptions: Rasmus Quist is only 5'8" and pulls 6:08 in the 2k. He has won the lightweight world championships too (2x)

Interesting! Could you just put the conclusion in simpler terms? Did I understand correctly in that you divide the pace in minutes by the mass times 0.23?

Maybe it is for people that are highly trained, but not specially in rowing. A highly trained marathon runner will probably not show a very good time on the erg compared with an average big, tall, fat rower.

Till now I have been using a 15" laptop on a stool next to the erg. But it feels awkward and the screen is still too small. When I get to install windows on my imac 24" on a table in front of the erg matters will hopefully become better!

It would be interesting to pit Olaf Tufte against Henrik Stephansen in a singlesculler and see who wins! If you use the weight adjustment calculator for both of them, the lightweight would seem to have the advantage!

Re: What are your times ??

I am wondering what everyone's times are for about 5 k. I just ask because I can't compare myself to a lot of people because I am shorter (5'3"). I am a lightweight also. Some of the men are getting such impressive times but they are nearly 6 feet tall. I did a 5 k in 25:35 yesterday. Not that grea...

that would only allow a few people to do competitive rowing. I agree that there are many factors, like arm-length etc., but making hundreds of different classes is impossible. Also just having one open class would discourage a huge amount of people from at all trying competitive rowing. The not-so-t...

Short height class instead of lightweight

Hi all! I've recently been looking into how important the factor of body length is in rowing. It is by no means a new discovery that the taller you are the faster your boat/erg will go, other things being equal. The taller person will be much more efficcient by being able to pull a longer stroke. I ...

on average I have had maybe 2 workouts on the erg per week. Is that too little? Is it true that by gaining weight one gets faster on the erg? Because the muscles can more easily grow?

Help with slow progression- Is strength training the key?

I have been training on the concept2 for soon one and a half years. My problem is that I seem to progress very slowly. My first 2000m I did in 7:12. then I have been training reasonably hard until now. I recently tried another 2k at a pace of 1:45, but half way through I gave up because I was feelin...
