THanks, I contacted the Rio Salado Rowing Club there so hopefully I'll be able to get some on the water rowing without snow too!

the NAVY camps are good. There are a lot of different college coaches there and they answer a lot of questions. The facilities there are definatly state of the art as well (except the dorms) I believe there is one at Princeton as well that is supposed to be very good. If you want to scull you probab...

rowing in Pheonix

I can't find my rower's almanac so I thought someone here might be able to help me answer this question. Is there anywhere to row in Pheonix AZ? I'm going for vacation and it would be great to get out there in some warmer weather on the water. I tried looking it up online and didn't find anything bu...

That's quite the erg you have... I don't think the gym would let me change the seat =)

I've figured out it's dust... the cage is absolutly covered if you look close but I don't know if just vacuming it will work, are there any other ways, I'm afraid a dust cloth will just push the dust inside.

thanks

Jbell, another thing to consider is that rowing is a sport when you tend to peak older. You are 16 and a jr. now, so you'll probably be 22? when you graduate? Our sport has a whold seperate u23 category, most elite rowers are older. Another thing is they say 10 years into training is when you peak. ...

Any ideas of how I can check since it's at the YMCA... and I'm a highschooler so I'm not sure how to go up to the people and say there is something wrong with the machine and if vaccuming doesn't work I need to take it apart...
I somehow don't think that would go over very well at all.

as a non-morning person when I have to row in the morning I get up and splash cold water on my face and head first thing, then I listen to loud music and think of something exciting and try to have my mind override my body saying I want more sleep. Also wake up consistently every day if you don't al...

That is pretty decent especially for being new to the sport. Do CRASH-B's or some other erg race and see how it goes there. Definatly start talk to coaches ASAP. There are a lot of good men's club teams but they don't offer scholarships technically because it's not varsity. Prove yourself on the wat...

I checked the drag factor on the erg and it was between a 45 and a 51 (depending on daper setting.) From what I read it's supposed to be over 100. I don't have any ideas of how it could be so off, it's a model D erg, so I don't think dust could effect it that much. Could there have been a problem in...

Try to get it as a sport at some of the highschools. Scholarships are fairly widly available in women's rowing and even if an athlete does not recieve a scholarship, rowing helps get into colleges and is often the booster needed to distinctify someone out of the massive applicant pool. Rowing's also...

You're a guy right? The process is a lot different for guys and girls because women's rowing is NCAA regulated and there are a lot of rules to be aware of and times coaches can and cannot talk to you. I don't know anything about mens rowing recruiting but I think it is probably much more relaxed. It...

Try contacting a boathouse in the Philly area. There are plenty of them. NJ also has a lot of rowing but I don't know where in NJ you are looking. I know there are a few clubs in Mercer but I don't think that is near Philly.

I have very little layback as well and my coach is always telling me that it is very important to layback on the erg especially, it just adds a little extra lenght to keep the wheel spinning a little harder a little longer. My pb 2k, 7:28 was done with layback probably about like the picture after c...
