Despite a period of lackluster and rather sporadic training due to holidays and busy schedule, I finally was able to knock a few seconds off my 5000m time. 19:10 down to 19:06. Had to pull 1:38 for the last couple of minutes. Pretty well lathered up at that point. Decided not to keep going to 30 min...

I started erging last October, doing about 8k per day, usually first thing in the morning. My fitness and times improved steadily for about 3 months and I lost about 10 lbs. I began the IP plan and continued to improve my times but stopped losing weight. The higher intensity workouts were much short...

Gregory, I haven't programmed the rest. I reset the monitor to 11' between intervals and depending on pace I'll rest a bit longer or shorter until my HR drops to 90 and I'm breathing normally. 2-3 minutes I'd say. The thing I like about this interval is its long enough to get in a groove, but short ...

Fooling around with 11' intervals lately. 3 of them makes a nice workout. Today I pushed the pace to make it to 3k on the first one. 10:59 so 1:48 pace. Pretty well tuckered out after that.

First time on the erg in 4 days. Had a bad cold, then coughed so hard I pulled something in my rib cage. Took it easy and just tried to row for 30 minutes without hurting myself. Tomorrow will be better.

Keep up the good work Ben. I was at your pace for 2k only about 4 months ago and you are putting in some great effort with your workouts so you will get better fast. Pull hard and don't skip breakfast!

Added 105 meters to my 30 minute ranking today. 7953, 153.1, r25. Managed a bit of a sprint to bring the last 6' split down to 152 pace. Listening to Ry Cooder's new album. Good stuff.

IP plan called for 5x2' TR, target 1:46 at low end of range. Decided to be conservative and neg split down from 1:50 by 1 second increments and finished #5 at 1:45.8 pace and 159 hr. 29r 1 minute rest.

After improving my 2k time by 16 seconds two weeks ago I revised my paces for the IP plan. The new paces proved very difficult last week and I didn't finish several workouts. So I'm doing last week over again, and it feels much better this time. Finishing everything and trying to average down the sp...

Supposed to do 2x15' UT1 @ 1:57 today. Set the PM for 30' in case I was feeling good. Got in a zone listening to UPS driver and great mandolin player Johnny Staats "Wires and Wood" album and managed to beat my PB by 103 meters with an avg pace of 1:54.7 for 7846 meters. A great Jerry Douglas solo wi...

I started erging in October and started the 26 week IP training plan 6 weeks ago, so its a little soon to think about racing in Boston. My longer term goal is to row 3 miles in my pulling boat next July in the Lake Champlain Challenge. On my 6 week test piece I dropped my 2K from 7:20 to 7:04, so my...

Nice work Ben! This old fart got a new PB today too. Started erging on my Model E on Oct 16th. 850k meters later I had a 2k test 6 weeks into my IP plan today. Went from 7:20ish back in November to 7:04.2 today. Thought about trying to go under 7 but looking at the prediction formulas decided to be ...

I get numbness in my right foot only if I row with socks on. The constriction of the sock is all it takes to reduce circulation enough to produce that tingling sensation and then "club foot". No problems when barefoot.

First post for me. I subscribe to Rhapsody music service and stream music through my computer (with good speakers and subwoofer) while I'm rowing. I've listened to lots of albums, most recently new releases by Eric Clapton and JJ Cale, Vince Gill, Bob Dylan, Jerry Douglas. Listening to new music giv...
