Not sure if it's the same thing that was happening to me, but, I was getting hand pain also and found out that I was gripping the handle too tightly. I found that if I loosened up my grip somewhat, the hands stoppped hurting. It turns out that it's easy to over estimate how much of a grip you really...

Hello: THnaks again for the advice. It's a great group of people we have here.!! To be sure, I haven't stoppped using my legs. I still walk everywhere without any aid and the therapist has me on a series of exercises to work the various muscles in my leg to help improve stability and hold the kneeca...

Thnaks for the advice! I'll try that. As for the extent of injury, I fell and landed on the kneecap. I have "bruised" the bone, and most likely put a bit of a dent in the cartilage....I am told. Apparently I didn't damage any ligaments or soft tissue, but, moving the knee through it's normal range o...

rowing with upper body only

Apologies up front if this has been answered. I did a search and couldn't find it. I recently damaged my kneecap and have been told to stop rowing for about three months while it heals. I need my legs ( i use them to walk with) so I figure I'll follow the doc's advise. However, I wondered if anyone ...

BobD obviously has researched this more than I, so I bow to his expertise. For myself, I like the 60 to 70 range , but I then, I find that sustaining 70 to 80 is tough and makes me sore....so , I stick to 60 to 70% for my purposes. To each his own...whatever keeps one rowing..for as Bob said, calori...

Hmmm Well, here's what i have tried. First, i used to row at the old "fat burning" pace for about an hour. If i worked the pace up into my aerobic phase, then i would burn out faster. Fat burning pace I can go for over an hour,....increase the pace to the aerobic pace and i konk out after 45 to 50 m...

Hmm...why in the world would someone train near their max...especially up in those numbers mentioned!!?? Asking for trouble I would say, though i am no expert. Most of what I have read mentions the benifts of training in the 60% to 70% for fat burning and general health immprovements includi...

Paul: When you start the drive....I was under the impression that the legs are doing the work until a certain point, after which the arms take over and finish it. When using your legs, how should your foot be? Are you pressing off the heel or the whole foot should be flat? I am confused how the lowe...

CAlves and ankles give out first

Hi: I have noticed that on longer rows (about an hour or so in my case) that the lower calves and ankles give out long before the arms, back or thighs. By that, i mean, I can feel the strain and pain there first and have to stop rowing before anything else gives out. I was wondering what I should be...

should your toes lift....

Hi All: Getting some stifness in my shins and ankles lately and wondering if my form is off. Specifically, when I start the recovery, my toes come up off the foot rest a bit as I pull myself forward. Watching some videos of others, I see some people keep their feet (toes) glued to the foot rests whi...

pain / tingling in foot and ankle

Morning: I have been rowing for awhile now (couple years) and used to row 45 minutes at a stretch with no problem. (never really had the desire to go much longer) Recently, I have been getting to the 30 minute mark when I notice that my right foot aches and seems to be falling asleep. (that pins and...

In my case, it was pointed out that I wasn't holding my elbows in tight to my body...I was letting the arms/elbows move outward as I pullled. Once I concentrated on keeping my elbows in, the tendonitis was not aproblem

Ease up for a bit to let the muscle/tendon heal..
