Paul - Your observation was not lost on me! Yes, last year I had only been on slides for a month or two before I came off them 2 weeks before the race. Still, it seems that the strength/speed should be there, seeing as how I'm better on the slides now than I was last year on the slides, but as someo...

An addendum: I looked at my training log from last year when I was on slides a few weeks before the race and this year on slides a few weeks before the race. My times are better now than last year. For example, on slides: Jan 08 - 5' @ 1:42.8; 3' @ 1:42.4; 2' @ 1:42.5; 2'@ 1:41.7 Jan 09 - 5' @ 1:40....

HELP! Off slides! Race coming up!
I've been training on slides since I got them over a year ago. Last year, I took the erg off the slides about 2 weeks before my indoor race so I could get used to the feel, and I got 6:53 at the race. I know there's some advantage to being on the slides, so this year I trained for a goal of 6:45 on ...

Sorry for the late reply, and the bump in the thread. As jamesg said, I think there is a slight advantage to being on the slides. When you row on the stationary erg, you are doing two types of work: a) putting effort into the flywheel, and b) moving your body up and down the slide. On the slides, yo...

latest firmware update - monitor not responding
Just yesterday I updated the firmware on my PM4 as instructed by the prompt given when I turned my computer on. This morning, it won't detect my rowing (when I go to "just row" and pull on the handle, nothing happens on the display). I unplugged and replugged in every cable, restarted the PM4, etc. ...

Why are TR pieces so much harder for me?
I'm using the UK website training program for my winter race for the second year, and I've noticed something peculiar and wonder if anyone else has the same problem, or some advice. I put in my training level, HRs, goal 2k time, etc., and it gives me the training program and suggested HRs and paces ...

Re: weight loss
Has anyone seen a fat sprinter? There are many fat joggers and cyclists however. I maintain that the only reason many persons do low intensity exercise is because it is easy. That may also be why there are 30 million recreational marathoners in the world, and only 7 recreational 800 meter runners :...

I have to disagree with jamesg: (say >2W/kg and/or HR >2x rest?), which is all we can expect from the erg if we use it My 30 second HIIT bursts are about 4W/kg and I approach my max HR (>4x rest) Short high intensity is no different (though long HI would be), in the sense that if you do adequate war...

Good job getting into rowing. My experience was that I did lots of steady state rows (40-50 minutes, 4-5x per week) and lost 80 pounds over 8 months. This also included rowing during the time of day that I used to binge on junk food, so the combination really helped. I hit a plateau at 185# (for 6'2...

Hey Cynic, I found you over at JP Fitness Forums. I tried to subscribe, but I never got the confirming e-mail to my account (not even in my junk folder), so I can't post. Can you send a message to Jean-Paul letting him know I have the same problem as this other dude last week. My username is tbartma...
