Need some advice

I'm rowing 10Ks for strength + endurance. I'm 68, 5'9" 155lbs. I row 10Ks 5 times a week to stay fit. I'd like some feedback. Currently, I am doing the first 1/3 at sr 14-15/split 2'24"; second 1/3 at sr 17-18 2'20"; third 1/3 at sr 20-24 at 2'15". I have been lowering the split times as I get comfo...

Re: Clicking sound from chain "cavity"

Thanks Karl,

I am stranded by the volcano. I'll check this out when the authorities come to their senses and I can get back to Copenhagen

Clicking sound from chain "cavity"

Concept2 model D 3 years old, not all that much use until recently. I hear a clicking sound coming from around the gear wheel that the chain meets when it first disappears inside the machine. I hear 1 click sometimes followed by another just as a start to pull back on the chain. It goes away with ch...

Everything seems to be in order, now. Thanks.

Re: These are good signs, correct?

I don't have a heart rate monitor. I sometimes just do fixed time workouts, where I check my heart rate periodically with my finger and a watch. That's how I measure things. It is fair to say that I am out of shape. I can row 10K m at just under 45' for slightly less than 2.15/500. I start off at a ...

Re: Can you tell a novice how to row (erg?) 10K?

Thanks. Due to battery failure, I, for the first time, read about the monitor and saw the drag factor reading. I turned mine down until it registered 125. It feels very "light", now.

Well, I'll be---- I just looked carefully at the batteries for the first time!

Thanks so much.

Is this just a burned out battery problem?

My unit is about 4 years old, but I have only used it in fits and starts, lately a lot, but I put it away for a week to make room for guests. I have the original rechargeable batteries in it. Dead! I plugged in the PM3 to my computer to charge the batteries. After a few hours, it said the batteries ...

These are good signs, correct?

I own a Concept 2. I have used it on and off for periods, without any real goals. That has changed and I have been working on improving my 10K time over what it was when I was in my 40s (and used a Concept 2 in a gym). I am 67 now. on my new scales i weigh 74.3K and am 5'9"" (176 cm). After 2 months...

Re: Concept2 and lower back pain

Getting back to the original question. I have a collapsed disk that was never operated on. It gives me great lower back discomfort in level walking in the city, but not climbing. Use of the Concept 2 45-50' minutes a day does not seem to have any beneficial or adverse effect on my back. However, I c...

Re: Rowers' high: behavioural synchrony is correlated with e

Isn't this old news? I have a question for the scientists. Addictive behavior has been associated with high levels of dopamine. I wonder if addicts respond as well to training as to alcohol and drugs?

Re: Can you tell a novice how to row (erg?) 10K?

Thanks for the suggestions very much. Drag factor? I have this lever on the side of the flywheel. I set it smack dab in the middle: 5.5. I guess i should look at the monitor and find what my drag factor actually is. But then, once I do, how do i find out what is best for me? Is there a look-up table?

Re: Can you tell a novice how to row (erg?) 10K?

My form is fine, it turns out. You are right. I just lack stamina.......and patience. I will work on building up my condition by working at a slightly slower split for the entire 10K without stopping. When I feel that is no longer a challenge, I will increase my split target by a couple of seconds a...

Re: Learning how to row

I looked a couple of rowing videos and studied my own style last night. That isn't a problem. I can go farther forward into the catch than i saw on the videos: my body is more coiled. I also keep my arms level and extended as i push out with my legs and don't pull back until my legs are fully (or al...

Re: Learning how to row

Thanks again. I will take the advice here and on the other thread I started and see what happens after 2-3 more weeks. I am not that interested in joining a club. I play lacrosse in the Spring and Summer. I have a job, a family here and n the US and 42 days vacation! I am right on the NW edge of Cop...
