Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

Three very solid intervals there Tim. 4 x 2k is quite a jump from 3x if you maintain the pace so not surprising that the last one was so tough. I was getting back from a few weeks away then managed to catch a bad cold, so took the last 3 days off. Anyway decided on a solid 5k today, and started off ...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

Still finding it hard to get into a rhythm after 3 weeks away and all I’ve done in the last 7 days is a couple of 30 min steady state rows  Time for the 4 x 1k r5’. Last time was an average of 2:05.7 r27 so planned to go 2:07-08/500m 1km intervals 1. 2:06.7 r27 2. 2:06.5 r27 3. 2:06.4 r27 4. 2...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

Paul, great job on the 5k TT – your dedication is paying off, lots of improvement over the last few months Gordon, if it’s any consolation, the 2k endurance intervals are my least favourite sessions too – I know, I need to work on my stamina! John, Piers and Rohan, really looking forward to seeing y...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

Sanz, good to have you back, a second off your times for 4 weeks off is a good result. Thanks John, although I suspect the reason I didn’t lose too much is that there wasn’t much there to lose  You seem ready for Sat – good luck! Piers, sensible of you to do a submax 2k test to get a feel for ...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

PP Week 11.3 Still struggling to get back consistently onto the plan. Did a couple of SS rows last week when I couldn’t face the 4 x 2k but decided I just needed to get it done. Last time (7 weeks ago  ) I averaged 2:11.3/500m r24 but have had a 4 week hiatus since then, so the plan was to go...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

Hi everyone, have been away from here for the last four weeks. No way to catch up with all the posts but great to see so many still working away at the PP. I was travelling for 2 1/2 weeks, with no rowing and only occasional short runs, and it has taken me til now to get back on the wagon. A few slo...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

Off travelling for 3 weeks now. Not sure how much rowing I'll get to do over this period but at least today, visitng Boston, and managed a great outing on the Charles with an old friend. Magnificent :D Meanwhile keep up the good work and I expect to see some great numbers when I get back.

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

PP 4.2.3 - 5 x 1500 last time was at 2:11.1 r23 so aim was to go 2:10-11 for 1st 4 1. 2:10.4 r23 2. 2:10.0 r24 3. 2:09.7 r25 4. 2:09.7 r25 5. 2:08.6 r26 Average 2:09.7 r24 Tried to keep the rate down at 23 in the first interval (which is what I’ve always done this session at), but found it difficult...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

Nick – pretty good session after food poisoning. Glad you’re back on the seat. Glenn – That heart rate either means you are super fit, or comatose  Anyway, good SS session. Piers – that’s another huge chunk off your time. Amazing that it’s coming down so much this deep into the PP. Suggests the...

I'm away for first 2 weeks in Nov, but intend to get back into the PP at least until the end of the year. Gains are still steady so intend to keep milking them!

Re: What does proper technique feel like?

It just feels right! Hard to describe, but you feel the whole body working together. I know it's all in sequence (legs-body-arms for the drive then arms-body-slide to recover), but with good technique, these all flow together. A bit like a good golf swing or a good judo throw, or whatever your sport...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

Hi John_n, a belated welcome to the board. I’m with you on wanting to add some weights to my training – but I’ve been undone before by trying to do too many things at the same time. I’m told that the guy who tries to catch 2 rabbits, doesn’t get either. So I decided to focus just on the rowing and w...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

PP 3.3.1 - 4 x 1000 r5’ Last time I did this was at 2:06.2 r26, so the plan was to start at 2:06 for the first interval and then see how that felt. 1k Intervals 1. 2:05.9 r26 2. 2:05.9 r27 3. 2:05.6 r26 4. 2:05.3 r29 Average 2:05.7 r27 Well that was harder than I was expecting, given I’d done the 75...

Re: Pete Plan Group - Startup Aug 20th thru 22nd

Paul, I think the mental side of training and racing is underappreciated by many, certainly by me before I started this. One of the biggest benefits I'm finding of being on a progressive plan like Pete's is knowing exactly what I did last time, so going that little bit faster is not too intimidating...
